Women's Tennis Falls At Wilmington University On Friday

Wilmington, DE - The Wagner College women's tennis team fell to the #36 ranked Wilmington University Wildcats, 6-1, on Friday afternoon. 

With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 3-5 on the season while the Wildcats stand at 10-0. 

The Green & White were narrowly defeated in No. 1 doubles as the pairing of Gabrielle Perraudin and Tara Dakic dropped a 6-4 decision to Neus Ramos Moreno and Jess Purdy. Wilmington secured a 6-1 win at No. 2 and followed that up with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles. 

In singles competition, Dakic was the lone Seahawk to capture a win, as she bested Begona Gomar at No. 2 singles, 6-2; 7-5, to move to 3-3 on the season and 2-1 in No. 2 action. Perraudin forced three sets against Moreno at No. 1 before falling 6-3; 4-6; 2-6. Fidan Khalilzade nearly forced a third set after coming back from a 6-1 first set to fall 7-6 (9-7) in the second. 

Mia Groetsch also forced a tiebreaker in her match at No. 5 against Marley Trifunovic, as she fell 7-6 (7-3); 6-2. Paula Ysabelle Uy earned a 7-6 (7-5) first set win before falling 6-3 and 7-6 to Fenna Swaan to give Wilmington the match.

Wagner will be back on the courts on Tuesday, March 22 as they will travel to Fairfield, CT to tangle with the Stags at 2:00 p.m.
