West Long Branch, NJ- The Wagner men's lacrosse team dropped a 9-7 decision to Monmouth despite a late push in the fourth quarter on Tuesday at Kessler Stadium.

The Seahawks scored two goals in the final frame from
Jack Brady to make it a two-goal game but it wasn't enough as Monmouth held on to win its home opener.

First Quarter
- Wagner opened the scoring for the second straight game on an Aidan Clark extra-man opportunity goal.
- Monmouth tied it up four minutes later with a Connor Macrae goal off a turnover.
- Stephen Dwyer quickly gave the Seahawks a 2-1 lead with his fifth goal of the season.
- Less than a minute later, Macrae scored his second goal in the opening frame to tie it back up at 2-2 with 2:57 left in the first.
- Monmouth's Max Brooks added another goal late in the period to put the Hawks up 3-2 heading into the second quarter.
Second Quarter
- Early in the period, Tyler Lawton found the back of the net off the feed from Clark to make it 3-3.
- Macrae then recorded his third goal for a hat trick with 7:45 left in the half to give Monmouth a 4-3 lead.
- Clark netted his second goal of the afternoon to tie it back up at 4-4 with 6:56 to go. Lawton was credited with the assist.
- Monmouth answered on Macrae's fourth goal of the game to go back in front, 5-4.
- The Hawks tacked on another goal with 2:25 left from David Cormack to make it 6-4 Monmouth going into the break.

Third Quarter
- Monmouth's offense came out in the third buzzing. Brady was able to keep the first three shots from the Hawks out of the cage.
- Devin Pipher was able to find the back of the net with 9:40 to go in the third to make it 7-4 Monmouth.
- Monmouth scored its fourth straight goal on Macrae's fifth of the game to take an 8-4 lead. Â
- Clark ended Monmouth's run with his third goal of the game to make it 8-5 Hawks at the 6:20 mark of the third.
- Wagner had its fourth extra-man opportunity of the afternoon with less than a minute left in the frame but was unable to capitalize.

Fourth Quarter
- Monmouth opened the scoring of the final 15 minutes on a Mike McIntyre goal to make it 9-5 Hawks with 10:30 remaining.
- Jack Brady netted his second goal of the season unassisted to cut it to 9-6 with just over nine minutes to play.
- Less than three minutes later, it was Brady again to make it a two-goal game with 6:14 remaining in the game.
- Wagner received its fifth extra-man opportunity of the game with just over four minutes to go. Dwyer walked in and tried to bounce one past Lode but was denied, keeping it 9-7.
- Noah Patterson also had a chance on net that was turned away with a minute to go.
The Seahawks will be back in action for the first game of the season at Hameline Field on Saturday, March 5 at 12:00 P.M. against NJIT.
