Wagner - Fairleigh Dickinson Highlights….

NEC Standings…
  • After tonight's slate of games, FDU remains in first place at 13-3 in league play. St. Francis Brooklyn, who has now won five straight games, sits in second at 12-4 while Wagner and Mount St. Mary's are both tied for third at 9-7.
  • LIU (8-8) is fifth while Saint Francis U (7-9) is sixth and Sacred Heart and Merrimack are tied at 6-10.
    • Merrimack is ineligible for the tournament due to NCAA Reclassifying regulations, so following the Pioneers would be both Central Connecticut and Bryant, who are each tied at 5-11.
 Inside-The-Boxscore...
  • Of Wagner's 63 points, 22 of those came from their reserves.
  • The Seahawks were outrebounded 37-30.
  • Wagner forced 15 FDU turnovers while converting 13 points off those mishaps.
    • The Green & White limited themselves to just eight turnovers, marking just the second time this season that team has had single-digit turnovers, and first since hosting Saint Francis U back on December 29, as the Seahawks had six turnovers that game.

HOW IT HAPPENED…
First Quarter…
  • Katrice Jackson powered the Seahawk offense early in the contest, hitting on Wagner's first six points of the contest as Wagner jumped out to an 8-2 advantage.
  • The Knights answered back with a 7-0 run of their own in taking their first lead of the game, 9-8, on the Madeline Selvaggi layup.
  • The two teams traded baskets over the next three minutes, splitting the 12 points as the visitors held a 15-14 lead after one on a Madison Stanley jumper.

Second Quarter…
  • FDU opened the second quarter scoring five of the first nine points in the stanza in claiming a 20-18 lead after Aniya Bell completed the three-point play from the line.
  • Wagner caught fire over the next 4:30, erupting on a 10-2 run that gave the Green & White a 28-22 advantage, as Lina Loceniece hit her second three-pointer of the contest off the feed from Jackson.
  • Following a Chloe Wilson layup, Jackson continued her stellar first-half performance, reaching double-figures with her tenth point of the night on another acrobatic shot.
  • The Knights closed out the frame with the final five points, but it was Wagner that headed into the intermission with a 30-29 lead.

Third Quarter…
  • Similar to the first quarter, Jackson kicked started the third quarter with a jumper off the feed from Thybulle that pushed Wagner's lead to 32-29 before Drayah Heyward was able to create space and race to the hoop for two, pushing the lead to five.
  • The Knights countered by scoring 10 of the next 16 points in trimming the deficit down to two, 42-40, with just 35 seconds left to go in the quarter as Scott was able to hit on the layup attempt.
  • What has become a trademark, Thybulle was able to drain a pull-up jumper as the horn sounded, as Wagner held a 44-40 lead heading into the final quarter of play.

Fourth Quarter…
  • Thybulle continued to find her shooters' touch, hitting on a jumper to start the fourth, as Wagner extended its lead to 46-40.
  • Alex Cowan was able to drive and convert on the and-one, as the Seahawks went up by nine, 49-40
  • FDU began to mount a comeback of their own, as an 8-0 run by the visitors had the Knights to within one with 5:42 left in regulation.
  • Both teams traded baskets as Nwabudu went on to score the four points for the Seahawks, making it a 53-50 game, before Scott converted on a jumper that again cut the lead to one.
  • Loceniece was able to hit on a mid-range jumper before Dahomee Forgues answered back on the other, with the home team leading once again by one, 55-54, with 3:08 showing on the clock.
  • After regaining the loose ball, Thybulle once again was able to find the shooters' touch, draining a jumper that brought the lead back to three, 57-54.
  • Free throws played a pivotal role in keeping the contest a one-possession game, until Loceniece was able to drill her third triple of the contest, forcing the Knights to call for time, with Wagner up 62-56, with 28 seconds left.
  • The first-year guard would get fouled and make one of two from the line before Bell drilled a three-pointer as time expired with Wagner holding on to a 63-59 victory.
