Women’s Lacrosse Falls To Nationally Ranked Drexel In Season Debut

Philadelphia, PA – The Wagner women's lacrosse team fell 18-7 to #17 Drexel in the first game of the Kelly McPartland era on Saturday in Philadelphia.

Trailing 1-0, graduate student Madeline Seims scored the first goal of the season for the Seahawks, kick-starting a 3-0 Wagner run that culminated in goals by senior Kasey Dorney and freshman Katie Siverson. Next up, the Dragons went on a 6-0 run to take a 7-3 lead at the half.
At the end of the first half, both teams had six draw controls apiece while senior goalkeeper Lauren DiStefano recorded eight saves for the Seahawks.

The Dragons put a stamp on the contest in the third quarter as they outscored the Seahawks 7-2 to take a 14-5 lead into the final stanza. Seims and Siverson tallied their second goals of the contest in the frame.

The Seahawks scored two goals in the fourth quarter as Seims completed her first hat trick of the season while senior Maria Henwood got on the scoresheet for Wagner.
 
Goalkeeper Lauren DiStefano stopped 15 shots and claimed three ground balls while Seims tallied a hat trick on five shots. Siverson found the back of the net on both of her shots in her Seahawk debut while Inside Lacrosse NEC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Kasey Dorney scored one goal on five shots and collected five draw controls. Senior Aileen Hannan claimed six ground balls in the loss.

Next up, Wagner's home opener is scheduled for Saturday, February 19, against Fairfield.
