Staten Island, NY - The Wagner women's tennis team competed at Monmouth and Fordham this past weekend.
At Monmouth on Friday, Wagner won matches at #1 singles and #4 singles, but fell in the first women's tennis dual match of the season, 5-2 at Monmouth.
Monmouth took the doubles point in two closely contested doubles sets and won on singles courts 2, 3 and 5 to clinch.
#1 singles, Tara Dakic, won in straight sets for Wagner over Zoe Klapman, 6-0, 6-2. Paula Ysabelle Uy defeated Monmouth's Lana Brezanin, dropping the first set 5-7, before taking the second 6-1 and the match tiebreaker, 12-10. It's the second win for Uy in two weeks after picking up a win at the Hofstra Invitational last weekend in Hempstead.
Gabrielle Perraudin had a chance to put some scoreboard pressure on the Hawks, but ultimately dropped her #2 singles match, 7-5, 4-6, 10-3.
The Green and White traveled to the Bronx for the Fordham Invitational on Saturday. In matches against players from Seton Hall, Columbia, and Fordham, the Seahawks put forth strong efforts, but could not seal a victory in several close matches.
Jasmine Lin pushed Columbia's Tatiana Ziff to a match-deciding tiebreaker just as teammate Tara Dakic split sets with Columbia's Sophia Strugnell. Both Seahawks fell in tiebreakers.
In doubles, Mia Groetsch and Paula Ysabelle Uy took a 5-1 lead on Columbia's Sophie Raiszadeh and Tatiana Ziff. However, the Lion duo rattled off 6 straight games to win 7-5. Seahawks

First-year head coach Lena Babunski discussed the weekend results. "I like the attitude and energy the whole team showed today. We are using these fall invitationals to grow our team spirit and build a strategic identity for each of our players. Next weekend is another opportunity for us to compete and improve in a dual match with Rider. I am looking forward to finishing our fall season strong."
The Seahawks will host Rider next Friday, October 28.
