Lewisburg, PA – The Wagner women's water polo team swept the first day of the Bucknell Invitational after defeating Mercyhurst, 25-6 and Gannon 25-7.

The Seahawks extended its perfect record against the Lakers in the eighth matchup between the two programs. Wagner put a stamp on the wire-to-wire victory with an 8-0 run to open the contest and took a 16-3 lead into the intermission.
The Seahawks continued the momentum as the Green & White outscored the Lakers 9-3 in the final 16 minutes to preserve a convincing 25-6 victory. This goal total for the Seahawks is the most since a 23-5 victory against Connecticut College on March 7, 2020. During the 2019 season Wagner tallied 23 goals or more on seven different occasions which included a 25-2 victory over the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) 25-2 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) semifinals en route to its 5th consecutive MAAC Championship.
The Seahawks were led by reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week
Carlota Alonso, who tallied five goals on six shots to go along with one assist and two steals. Alonso wasn't the only newcomer to make an impact as

#17 Wagner (25) vs. Gannon (7)
Wagner claimed its second victory of the day in convincing fashion over Gannon, 25-7. The 50-goal effort was the first time Wagner scored 50 goals in two games in the same day since April 13, 2019, after the Green & White defeated two MAAC foes, 27-6 over La Salle and a 23-8 over Siena. The victory over La Salle is the most goals in a single game in Wagner College women's water polo history.
The Seahawks put a stamp on the contest after scoring 11 goals in the opening stanza.

The Green & White tallied five goals in the second half while Arias tallied a hat trick to give her four in the contest and senior
Pip Nash found the back of the net twice as Wagner took a 16-5 lead into the second half.
Wagner carried the momentum into the third quarter as the Green & White found the back of the net eight times.
Sofia Diaz Alvarez tallied a hat trick in the frame to give her four goals in the contest, and freshman
Lizzy Koerper tallied two goals in the frame before completing her first ever hat trick as a member of the Seahawks in the fourth quarter. Sophomore
Grace Coleman tallied two goals in the third stanza.
All three goalkeepers saw action in the contest as
Mikaela Wells stopped three shots,
Kristina Bell stopped one and
Hayden Hulser stopped a 5-meter penalty shot in her Seahawk debut.
The Seahawks held on in the final quarter to preserve a 25-7 victory and they improve to 4-2 on the young season.
Wagner will wrap up its trip on Sunday, January 30 with contests against #24 Bucknell and VMI.
