Ithaca, NY – The Wagner field hockey team is set for two contests away from Grymes Hill this weekend. The first game, set for Friday afternoon, will take place against the Cornell Big Red.
The Seahawks hosted The University of Albany last Friday for their Fall 2021 home opener at the Wagner College Field Hockey Complex, a 4-1 win for the Great Danes. Senior
Julia Cruces Pastorino scored the opening goal of the game for her first goal of the season. Senior captain
Daisy Ruhle stopped 13 shots in her starting debut while saving six in the fourth quarter. Freshman
Liselotte Koop picked up her second assist of the young season, giving her one on each of the Seahawks goals this season. The lost to Albany dropped the Seahawks to 0-2 for the first time in their short program history.
A member of the Ivy League, Cornell is set to open their 2021 season hosting the Green & White this Friday afternoon, September 10. Their original first game, a road matchup at Colgate University that was scheduled for Wednesday, September 8, was postponed. This matchup will be the first time these two adversaries will face off in the history of both programs; the teams were scheduled to play in Ithaca during the 2020 season before the game was canceled. Cornell's current roster consists of 27 student-athletes, 16 of them have yet to play a division I field hockey game. Cornell isn't the only Ivy League team the Green & White will visit this month, as a trip to New Haven, CT to battle the Yale Bulldogs awaits the Seahawks on September 19 at 2:00 P.M.
The Seahawks will have Saturday to recuperate before they travel to Philadelphia, PA to battle La Salle University on Sunday at 12:00 P.M.
