Softball Falls At CCSU

New Britain, CT - The Wagner College softball team suffered two defeats at Central Connecticut on Saturday, falling 11-3 in the first game, before dropping game two by a score of 6-2.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow for the second doubleheader of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.

Game 1 Recap: CCSU 11-3 Wagner

The Seahawks took the lead in the first inning. Following a leadoff hit by graduate student Zoe Bender, junior Natalie Del Ponte brought home the first run of the game with with a single to center field and gave the Seahawks a 1-0 lead.

In the fifth inning, a single by freshman Scarlett Lloyd and a walk by Bender put two runners on base for freshman Keaghan Ward, who doubled to left center to bring home two more runs for the Green and White.

In the circle, junior Eve Harvey suffered the loss, while junior Kayla Hooks also saw action in relief.

The Blue Devils scored two runs apiece in the first and second inning, one in the third, five in the fourth, and one in the fifth to earn the victory.

Game 2 Recap: CCSU 6-2 Wagner

In the second game of the afternoon, CCSU took the early lead with one run in the first, one run in the second, and four runs in the third.

The Seahawks got on the board in the fifth, as an error allowed senior Alexis Silinonte to cross the plate for Wagner's first run of the game.

In the sixth inning, graduate student Amelia Van Orman followed a Del Ponte double with an RBI single to bring home Wagner's second run of the game, but it wasn't enough, as the Blue Devils hung on for the victory.

Sophomore Bianca Worthy led Wagner with three hits, while Bender contributed two hits in the loss. As a team, the Seahawks outhit the Blue Devils 9-7. 

Van Orman suffered the loss in the circle after going the distance, striking out five batters in six innings.
