Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College softball team dropped a pair of games against LIU on Tuesday afternoon, falling 4-3 in extra innings in game two after losing the first game by a score of 12-3.
Both teams will meet again on Grymes Hill tomorrow for the second doubleheader of the series, with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 pm. Both games will be broadcast live on NECFrontRow.
With the two losses, the Seahawks fall to 9-11 on the season and 5-11 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play, while the Sharks improve to 15-3.

The Seahawks opened the scoring, as junior
Natalie Del Ponte started her day at the plate with a solo shot to give Wagner an early 1-0 lead in the second inning. For Del Ponte, it was her second straight game with a home run after crushing her first homer of the season on Saturday against Sacred Heart.

Alexis Silinonte each recorded RBI singles to put an additional two runs on the board for the Green and White.

Zoe Bender led the Seahawks with two hits apiece, as Wagner combined for eight hits throughout the contest.

The Sharks scored four runs in the third, three in the fourth, and five runs in the sixth inning to earn the victory.
Game 2 Recap: LIU 4-3 Wagner
In a tightly contested extra-inning battle, the Seahawks once again jumped out to an early lead, with Del Ponte opening the scoring for the second straight game on an RBI single to left field in the first inning.
LIU took a 3-1 lead in the third inning, before Del Ponte delivered her second RBI of the game and third of the afternoon to get the Seahawks within one run at 3-2 in the third with a double to left field that scored van Orman.

Alexa Garcia and tied the game at 3-3.
Going into extra innings, LIU added a run in the top half of the eighth inning to earn the victory, with Del Ponte making a spectacular play at third base to prevent additional runs from coming home in the eighth.

Eve Harvey was charged with the loss after going the distance and now sits at 98 career strikeouts after striking out three batters today.
Del Ponte led the way with three hits offensively, while Conway and Bender each had two hits throughout the game.
