LAST TIME OUT FOR WAGNER...
The Seahawks bested Sacred Heart, 2-1, on Monday afternoon for their first win of the season improving their record to 1-1; 1-0 NEC. The result also proved to be the first ever win for Wagner over the Pioneers, knotting up the all-time series at 1-1.
The Green & White, who out-shot the Pioneers, 14-9, went ahead 1-0 on junior
Agustina Deharbe's first Seahawk goal as she entered the circle and fired a shot into the bottom right corner just five minutes into the first quarter.
After a Sacred Heart equalizer in the first period, junior
Julia Cruces Pastorino received a pass and dribbled passed multiple defenders before firing a game winner into the net.
The Green & White's defense stood strong in response to Sacred Heart's equalizer, only allowing eight total shots, three of which came on goal through the rest of the game. The Seahawk defenders blocked two shots themselves, while reigning NEC Rookie of the Week
Erin Franklin made three saves, two coming in the final four minutes, to give Wagner their first win of the young season.
ABOUT MERRIMACK...
The Warriors come into Thursday's contest with Wagner looking for their first win of the season, as they stand at 0-2; 0-1 NEC on the year. Wagner leads the all-time series 1-0, after ending the 2019 season with a 5-0 victory over the Warriors in Staten Island.
Merrimack has dropped a pair of road contests to both New Hampshire and league foe, Rider. Their defense has stumbled out of the gate to start the season, allowing a combined 13 goals in their first two contests, while being out-shot 41-6, 27 of which came on target.
In net, fourth-year head coach Megan Shea has used all three of her goalkeepers, with sophomore Abbie Ortyl leading the trio with nine saves and 65 minutes played.
Offensively, Merrimack has been led by sophomore Jane Bonazzoli and senior captain Colleen Ellis who have both registered two shots on the season. While Ellis, along with junior Juliane Ohmen return from last season as the team's highest scorers, combining for six goals in the 2019 campaign.
