North Andover, MD - The Wagner College softball team earned its second consecutive split against Merrimack on Sunday afternoon.
The Seahawks won the second game by a score of 7-3 after falling 3-2 in the first game of the day.
With the split, the Seahawks are 6-2 on the season and 2-2 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play, while the Warriors sit at 4-5 on the year.
Game 2 Recap: Wagner 7-3 Merrimack
The Seahawks used a big fourth inning to take control of the game. After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, an RBI single by freshman
Scarlett Lloyd tied the game up at 1-1 with one out in the fourth.
An RBI groundout by sophomore
Bianca Worthy two batters later gave Wagner the lead, before Lloyd scored on a passed ball to make it 3-1.
Next up, junior
Breanna Thompson extended the lead to 4-1 with an RBI single.
Merrimack cut the deficit to 4-3 in the bottom half of the inning but the Seahawks added three insurance runs in the seventh on an RBI groundout by junior
Mackenzie Vogler and a two-run double by Worthy to make it 7-3.
Junior
Eve Harvey earned the victory, pitching 3.2 innings in relief of graduate student
Amelia Van Orman and junior
Kayla Hooks. Harvey kept the Warriors off the board while allowing just four hits and striking out four batters.
Freshman
Keaghan Ward led the Green and White with three hits, while Van Orman and Lloyd recorded two hits apiece.
Game 1 Recap: Merrimack 3-2 Wagner
The Seahawks rallied in the seventh inning to cut the deficit to just one run, but could not complete the late comeback.
Merrimack took a 1-0 lead in the third and added two runs in the sixth, before the Seahawks started their comeback attempt in the top of the seventh inning.
Vogler led off the inning with a double. Two batters later, a single by Worthy got Wagner on the board with one out.
Three batters later, graduate student
Zoe Bender reached on an error, allowing Thomson to score, but the Warriors hung on for the victory.
Van Orman, Vogler, Worthy, and Thompson all had hits for the Seahawks.
In the circle, Harvey tossed the complete game, but was charged with the loss despite striking out five batters in six innings.
Wagner will next be in action next weekend, as the Seahawks travel to Saint Francis U for doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
