Men's Lacrosse Falls to Bryant In Northeast Conference (NEC) Action

PDF Stats

Staten Island, NY
- The Wagner men's lacrosse team dropped a Northeast Conference (NEC) contest to the Bryant Bulldogs at Hameline Field on Sunday by a final of 18-5.

Graduate student Philip Buque remained an offensive force for the Seahawks with four more goals, his third hat trick and fourth multi-goal game of the season. Fellow graduate student Matt Cechini added a goal and an assist for a season-high three points. Juniors Stephen Dwyer and Tyler Lawton both added an assist for Wagner.

Sophomore Brendan Higgins stuffed the stat sheet with a team-high six ground balls, three caused turnovers, and a 3-for-5 day from the face-off X. Senior Connor Sweeney, junior Tommy Scarpello, as well as freshmen Aidan Clark and Giovanni Armocida all finished with at least one ground ball and one caused turnover. Senior Matt Morris finished with four ground balls as well for the Seahawks.

Sophomore goalie Danny Brady finished with 14 saves and three ground balls between the pipes.

Isaiah Davis, Jake Buonaiuto, and Bennett Abladian all finished with four points for Bryant; in all, 11 different Bulldogs scored at least one goal. Luke Caracciolo played just over 55 minutes in net, registering 13 saves.

How It Happened:
Bryant led 6-0 after the first quarter, then added a seventh goal to open the second before the Cechini-to-Buque connection got Wagner on the board with 12:16 left in the half. After three more goals from Bryant, Cechini scored off a feed from Dwyer, then the Cechini-to-Buque connection struck a second time to cut the deficit to 10-3 at the half.

The Bulldogs put the first three on the board in the third before Buque completed his hat trick shortly past the midway point of the period. Just 11 seconds into the final quarter, Buque netted his fourth of the day off a feed from Lawton. Bryant scored the last three goals of the game for the final margin.

Up Next for Wagner:
The Green and White remain on Grymes Hill next Saturday when the Long Island (LIU) Sharks head west for a 12:00 NEC affair.
