Women's Soccer Drops Conference Tilt At Merrimack On Tuesday

North Andover, MA – The Wagner women's soccer team fought hard throughout the match, but a second-half goal by Merrimack's Rebecca Harty proved to be the difference as the Seahawks dropped a 1-0 decision to the Warriors on Tuesday afternoon.

The Seahawks fall to 0-3-0; 0-2-0 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play while the Warriors improve to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in league play.

Wagner sophomore goalkeeper Erin Kelly was tested early on in the match as the Massapequa, NY native made three saves over the first ten minutes.  The Seahawks first real chance in the came in the 24' as Ari Michitti sent a low-lining strike towards the bottom left of the goal but was denied by Merrimack's Megan Langlois.  Kelly went on to finish the opening half with seven stops on eight Merrimack shot attempts.

The Warriors took five corners in the opening stanza as the game entered halftime tied at 0-0.

The second-year Wagner keeper kept the Warriors off the scoreboard as Kelly turned away another scoring chance in the 50' as Molly Murnane sent one towards the bottom left that Kelly was able to stop. Wagner created a scoring opportunity in the 58' as Gabby Cipriano was able to boot the ball from the left side that found the waiting arms of Langlois.

Following a foul to Wagner, Merrimack went on the attack. Emma O'Leary was able to loft the ball that found the foot of Harty, who was able to bend it past the Seahawk defenders into the back of the net, giving the home team a 1-0 edge.

The visitors created one final chance in the match. Wood went out for the throw-in and found Julia Fitzsimmons, who immediately sent the ball back to Wood on the right side as she fired a high-arching shot that settled in front of Langlois.

Wagner is next in action on Tuesday, March 22, as they return home to Hameline Field to tangle with Bryant. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
