Women's Soccer Battles To Scoreless Draw With St. Francis Brooklyn

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw with St. Francis Brooklyn at home in a windy Friday night Northeast Conference (NEC) match.

Wagner is now 0-3-1 on the season while the Terriers move to 1-3-1.

Although the shot count was in St. Francis Brooklyn's favor, 22-4, Wagner held its own on its home turf.

In the first half, the Terriers took 11 shots with four of those finding their way towards Wagner's sophomore goalkeeper, Erin Kelly. Kelly stopped a potential scoring threat in the 15' as Trystan Thompson-Cotterell nearly put the visitors ahead. The Massapequa, NY native stood tall in net, turning away another scoring chance three minutes later, as Oormi Sivapatham found space to test Kelly, but was denied the scoring opportunity.

In the 21', Brianna Van Giesen tried to put the visitors on the board but Kelly again made the save, her third in six minutes.

Wagner's best scoring chance in regulation came in the 65' as Mya Donnelly tested the Terriers keeper, Elizabeth Lewis, with a screamer off a beautifully designed free kick, but Lewis was able to make the stop.  In the final ten minutes, tri-captain Le'la Allen tried to give the Green & White the lead but couldn't find the combination to get one past Lewis.

The Terriers had three early shots at the game-winner in the first overtime session, as Barbara Zagonyi's attempt went wide right, follow by Sivapatham's attempt also going wide of the net. Zagonyi stepped up for a second chance, but this time, her shot sailed high over the net.  St. Francis Brooklyn held the Seahawks without a shot attempt in the second overtime but was unsuccessful in their four chances.

Lewis finished with two saves for the visitors while Margaret Motolese, Sarah DeWitt, and Zagonyi each had four shot attempts in the game for SFBK.

Kelly finished with eight saves for Wagner while Donnelly, Le'la Allen, Annie White and Caitlin Filja each had a shot attempt.

Wagner will close out the month on the road, as the Seahawks pay a visit to Emmitsburg, MD where they will tangle with the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers on Tuesday, March 30 at 5:00 p.m.
