Staten Island, NY -  The Wagner College women's basketball team will look to remain perfect at the Spiro Sports Center while increasing their winning streak to five straight games as the Seahawks play host to the Rider University Broncs on Tuesday afternoon. 
 
WAGNER ATHLETICS SPECTATOR POLICY...
  • In accordance with New York State and New York City guidelines the Wagner College Athletic Department has announced the following spectator policy for all indoor athletic competitions:
  • All guests will be required to wear masks
  • All guests over 11 years old must show proof of vaccination 
  • Children under 12 must be accompanied by a vaccinated adult
  • Physical tickets must be picked up on game day (can still be purchased and reserved in advance)

SERIES BREAKDOWN AGAINST RIDER...
  • Tuesday's contest marks the 23rd all-time meeting between Wagner and Rider with the Broncs holding a 14-8 edge in the head-to-head series. 
  • These two schools last met back on December 18, 2019 in Lawrenceville, NJ as the Broncs earned a 77-63 victory.
  • The last time these two teams met on Grymes Hill dates back to December 29, 2006, as the Seahawks dropped a 71-59 decision.
  • Wagner's last home win against Rider came on February 1, 1997, in which the Green & White was victorious, 65-60. 

TOPS IN THE NEC... 
  • The Seahawks led the Northeast Conference (NEC) in field-goal percentage defense at 35.6 percent while also leading the way in three-point field goal percentage defense, as the opposition is connecting at 19.5 percent. 
  • Wagner ranks first in the circuit in scoring defense (53.8 ppg), scoring margin (+8.0), steals per game (10.0 spg), turnovers forced (22.67) and turnover margin (4.17). 

WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN.... 
  • Wagner is currently riding a four-game winning streak into Tuesday's contest. 
  • The last time they won five straight came a season ago, as the Green & White earned two wins over Central Connecticut and Mount St. Mary's to close out the regular season and adding a 70-57 triumph over Saint Francis U in the NEC Championship before falling in the title game at Mount St. Mary's. 

DEFENSIVE LOCKDOWN...
  • Among all NCAA teams, Wagner ranks sixth in the country in three-point field goal percentage defense (19.5%) while ranking in the top-25 in turnovers forced (22.67).
  • Additionally, first-year head coach Terrell Coburn's defense has been a key component of their 5-1 start as the Seahawks rank 59th overall in turnover margin (4.17), are ranked 64th overall in steals per game. 
FROM A-TO-Z... 
  • Senior point guard Zhaneia Thybulle is rapidly etching her name among the league's best and also nationally. 
  • The Elmont, NY native ranks among the top-15 in assists per game, averaging 6.2 a contest. 
  • Her 37 total assists lead the conference while placing her among the top-50 in the nation (48th overall). 

STARTING FIVE...
  • Head coach Terrell Coburn has used the same starting five of Alex Cowan-Zhaneia Thybulle-Drayah Heyward-Emilija Krista Grava-Kem Nwabudu in all six games, going 5-1 during this span. 
  • Wagner has averaged 46.5 points per game while hitting on 42.0 percent from the field. 
  • The Seahawks' starting five have allowed just 37.5 points per game and have held their opponents' starters to just 14.5 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

E-1K-G...
  • Senior forward Emilija Krista Grava became the 25th member of the 1,000 point club on November 28 against New Hampshire.
  • Krista Grava, who recorded the milestone feat with 59.2 seconds showing on the clock in the second quarter, finished the game with 11 points while also grabbing five rebounds.

  • During Wagner's three-game win streak at the Spiro Sports Center, the team has outscored their opponents by nearly 12.0 points per game (62.0-50.3).
  • Wagner is converting on 43.7 percent from the field while hitting on nearly 37.0 percent from the outside. Conversely, their opponents are only hitting on 36.3 percent from the field and just 18.8 percent from three-point range.
  • Seniors Emilija Krista Grava and Kem Nwabudu are leading the way at home, averaging 13.3 ppg and 10.0 ppg, respectively.  
  • Zhaneia Thybulle has nearly averaged double-figures (9.7 ppg) but has been at the forefront in distributing the ball, averaging nearly 7.0 apg in Wagner's three home contests. 
SCOUTING RIDER...
  • The Broncs enter play at 2-5 after Makayla Firebaugh knocked down a jumper with 24.7 seconds remaining to give Rider a 59-57 road win at Army West Point this past Saturday. 
  • Three players are averaging double-figures, led by Lenaejha Evans, who is pouring in 14.1 points per game. Firebaugh is next at 11.9 ppg followed by Raphaela Toussaint. 
  • As a whole, Rider is averaging 59.4 points per game on 38.3 percent shooting from the field. The Broncs are only hitting on 24.6 percent from the outside.
