Brookville, NY – The Wagner field hockey team dropped a Northeast Conference (NEC) tilt 2-1 to the Long Island University Sharks on Friday afternoon.
Despite outshooting LIU 2-1 in the opening quarter, neither team was able to find the net as none of the shots were on goal.
Both teams found the back of the net in the second quarter, first, the Seahawks capitalized on a corner. Sophomore
Natalie Rocuskie inserted the corner, finding freshman
Liselotte Koop whose shot was redirected by Senior
Julia Cruces Pastorino, her sixth of the season to get the Green & White on the board. LIU tied up the match three minutes later on a goal from Felicia King, her second of the campaign.
In the first half, the Seahawks outshot the Sharks 4-2 and had three corner attempts while LIU had zero. The game entered the second half knotted at one.
Wagner continued to get chances in the third quarter, outshooting the hosts 3-1, but the lone LIU goal found the back of the net on a penalty stroke from Emilice Paez. The Seahawks attempted six corners in the third to the Sharks zero.
The Seahawks carried their momentum into the final stanza, taking six shots and holding the hosts without a shot. The Green & White were unable to find the back of the net as the penalty stroke goal from Paez was the difference.
Wagner outshot LIU 13-3 in the contest while attempting 14 corners and holding the Sharks without an attempt throughout the entire contest. Seniors
Julia Cruces Pastorino and
Agustina Deharbe led the Seahawks with four shots, all of Pastorino's were on net. Freshman
Liselotte Koop picked up at least one point for the seventh straight contest.
The Seahawks will close out their weekend on Sunday afternoon with a visit to Smithfield, RI as Wagner will take on the Bryant Bulldogs at 1:00 p.m.
