Smithfield, RI – The Wagner field hockey team captured its second Northeast Conference (NEC) victory on the season, defeating Bryant, 2-1, in overtime on Sunday afternoon.

Daisy Ruhle came up with one save in the opening quarter to keep the game scoreless.
The Seahawks began to open up the game in the second stanza, out shooting the Bulldogs 6-3 and had more corners, 4-1. Bryant goalkeeper Marijin Jaarsma made four of her 15 saves in the opening half to preserve the deadlock heading into the half.

The rapid pace continued in the final quarter; the Seahawks out shot the Bulldogs 5-3 but were held without a goal due to Marijin Jaarsma tallying four saves in the final quarter of regulation.
Wagner put a stamp on the match in the first overtime period, outshooting the Bulldogs 8-0 through four minutes of overtime. The Seahawks broke the deadlock on a corner inserted by freshman

Reigning NEC Player of the Week
Julia Cruces Pastorino's goal gave her five in the last four games and today's overtime winner was her second sudden death goal of the season. The Buenos Aires, Argentina native leads the squad in goals with seven and three game-winning goals. For Koop, the reigning NEC Rookie of the Week has extended her points streak to nine games. The Seahawks 31 shots in today's game is a program record, passing a previous team high of 24 set last season against Bryant, the Green & White out shot Bryant 31-12 in today's match. The Seahawks accumulated more corners than the hosts, taking 16 to Bryant's five.
The Seahawks will return to the friendly confines of the Wagner College Field Hockey Complex next weekend for two contests. First, on Friday, October 15, the Green & White will host Fairfield for an NEC contest at 3:00 P.M. before hosting Villanova on Sunday, October 17 at noon.
