Staten Island, NY - The Wagner field hockey team dropped a non-conference tilt 2-1 to the Vermont Catamounts on Sunday afternoon.
Despite being outshot by the Seahawks 5-2 in the opening frame, the Catamounts jumped out the lead on a goal from Alina Gerke. Vermont netminder Sierra Espeland kept the Green & White at bay with four first quarter saves.
The Catamounts doubled their lead in the second quarter when Clodagh Ferry fired a shot past Wagner goalkeeper
Daisy Ruhle midway through the second stanza. Vermont outshot Wagner 3-1 in the quarter, all the Vermont shots were on net and Ruhle stopped two out of the three shots she faced.

Vermont continued to hold the momentum as the second half got underway, they held Wagner without a shot in the third quarter, but
Daisy Ruhle came up with four saves including a penalty stop on Sophia Drees.

Sara Nelson breathed life back into the Seahawks when she deflected a
Liselotte Koop shot off a corner set up by sophomore
Natalie Rocuskie. For Nelson, the was goal was her second of the season and Koop has eight assists in her first career eight games on Grymes Hill.

Daisy Ruhle recorded seven saves and senior
Julia Cruces Pastorino tallied five shots in the loss.
Next weekend the Seahawks resume Northeast Conference (NEC) action with a pair of road tilts, beginning on Friday, October 8, as Wagner will head to Brookville, NY to tangle with the LIU Sharks before heading to Smithfield, RI on Sunday, October 10, to take on the Bryant University Bulldogs.Â
