Staten Island, NY – The Wagner field hockey team dropped a Northeast Conference (NEC) tilt 3-0 to the Fairfield University Stags on Friday afternoon. The Seahawks own a 5-8 overall record and a 2-2 record in NEC play.
The Stags outshot the Seahawks 3-2 in the opening stanza, all of the Fairfield shots were on frame. Freshman Agustina Castelucchi opened the scoring 13:21 into the match when she fired a shot past senior netminder
Daisy Ruhle. The Marlow, England native stopped two shots in the first quarter.
The visitors carried the momentum from the first quarter into the second, outshooting the Green & White 3-2 in the quarter.
Daisy Ruhle accumulated three saves in the second stanza, including a penalty stroke save on senior Malen Iglesias. Fairfield outshot Wagner 6-4 at the half, the Seahawks tallied just one on goal in the opening 30 minutes.
The second half opened with several chances for the Seahawks, they doubled the Stags shots in the third 4-2.
The Stags doubled their lead nine minutes into the second half when Emma Radebaugh crossed the ball to Agustina Casteluchi, her second of the afternoon.
Fairfield put a stamp on the contest when Page Lowry found the back of the net with seven minutes remaining in the contest to preserve the 3-0 victory for the visitors.
Both squads accumulated 10 shots, but Fairfield found the net nine times while holding Wagner to just five shots on goal.
The Stags had more corners than the Seahawks, 9-4.
Daisy Ruhle stopped six saves and senior
Agustina Deharbe led the Green & White with four shots in the loss.
Wagner will be back in action on Sunday, October 17 when they host Villanova at the Wagner College Field Hockey Complex at noon.
