Hampton, VA - The Wagner College softball team closed out the Hampton Invitational with a 6-1 loss to Hampton on Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 3-6 on the season, while the Pirates improve to 15-3.
Senior
Kyleigh Norris and sophomore
Penelope Russ lead Wagner with two hits apiece, while sophomore
Nora Conway, freshman
Bianca Worthy, sophomore
Breanna Thompson, and senior
Zoe Bender also had hits for the Seahawks.
After Hampton took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, Wagner answered right back, as singles by Norris and Russ put two runners on base. Next up, Bender singled to center field to tie the game at 1-1.
In the sixth, consecutive hits by Norris and Thompson once again put two runners on base, but Wagner was unable to capitalize.
The Pirates scored four runs in the second and one in the fourth to earn the victory.
Freshman
Madison Ferrao suffered the loss in the circle, while sophomore
Eve Harvey pitched five innings in relief, striking out two.
Next up, the Seahawks will travel to California to play in the LMU Tournament, hosted by Loyola Marymount, starting on March 14.
Over the course of three days, the Seahawks will play five games.
