Women's Tennis Drops A Pair Of Non-Conference Matches To Army & Quinnipiac

West Point, NY - The Wagner College women's tennis team dropped a pair of non-conference matches at West Point, NY, falling to the host Army West Point, 7-0 on February 28 before dropping a 4-0 decision to Quinnipiac. 

With the results, Wagner falls to 3-5 on the season while Army West Point moves to 10-3 on the year and the Bobcats improves to 4-7.

Wagner vs. Army Recap
  • The Seahawk duo of Vedika Anand and Samantha Lugtu nearly picked up the victory at first singles but were edged by Ana Joyner and Sam Dimaio, 6-4. 
  • Junior Fidan Khalilzade rallied back to force a third set after defeating Paola Bou, 6-3, at second singles. In the final set, Bou doubled up the third-year Seahawk, 10-5. 


Wagner vs. Quinnipiac
  • For the second straight match, Anand and Lugtu kept pace with their counterparts, this time the pairing of Payton and Jordan Bradley. The Bradley sisters earned a 7-5 victory. 
  • Senior Melanie Post put forth a valiant effort in sixth singles, dropping the first set 7-5 to Amy Zammarieh before Zammarieh picked up a 6-2 win that clinched the win for the former Northeast Conference (NEC) members, Quinnipiac.

  • Wagner resumes conference play as they travel to St. Francis Brooklyn on March 7 looking for the season sweep of the Terriers after taking the first meeting, 6-1, back on October 13.
