Women's Tennis Falls In Spring Opener At Bucknell

Williamsport, PA - The Wagner women's tennis team put forth a valiant effort in its first spring match of the season but were blanked by Bucknell, 7-0, on Friday afternoon.

Opening Statement
  • "We fought throughout the entire afternoon. It was a close doubles point and we were right in there with a couple of singles matches. I'm excited to be in season and competing again. We have high hopes for the spring season." 

Match Notes
  • After dropping third doubles, the pairing of sophomore Diana Pinzariu and Fidan Khalilzade rallied at second doubles before dropping a 6-3 decision to Daniela Bellini and Sofia Ayuso. 
  • At first doubles, senior Vedika Anand and second-year Seahawk, Samantha Lugtu also fought back in their match, but were edged, 6-4, by Paige Leavy and Dax Seidlin.
  • The Bison clinched the match at No. 4 when Ayuso defeated Alegra d'Alessandro, 6-2; 6-2. 

Inside The Match
  • Wagner forced a pair of tiebreakers at second singles and sixth singles, respectively, before Khalilzade and senior Melanie Post dropped their sets, 


Next Up
  • The Seahawks will close out the weekend on Sunday when they take on Big East members, St. John's, at Queens College for an 8:30 p.m. start.
