Women's Tennis Blanked By St. John's On Sunday Evening

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to Big East member, St. John's, on Sunday evening at the Queens College Tennis Center.

The Red Storm won the doubles point, 2-0, in taking a 1-0 lead in the overall match. 

Oceane Garibal defeated sophomore Samantha Lugtu, 6-1; 6-3 before Najah Dawson outlasted Emma Reevers, 6-0; 6-3. St. John's clinched the victory at first singles after Jessica Livianu, who is ranked No. 40 in the most recent ITA Singles rankings, defeated Vedika Anand, 6-1; 6-0. 


COACHES' CORNER:
Head Coach Lynn Kiro Opening Statement:
"St. John's was the better team this evening. I was very happy with the way our girls competed as they were feeding off each other's energy throughout the entire match."


INSIDE THE MATCH:
  • Junior Fidan Khalilzade and sophomore Diana Pinzariu put forth a valiant effort at second doubles, trailed Oceane Garibal and Najah Dawson, 5-4  before that match went unfinished.


NEXT UP: 
  • The Seahawks will look to snap its two-match losing streak on Friday, February 14, as Wagner will travel to nearby Newark, NJ, to square off against NJIT at 1:30 p.m.
