Princeton, NJ – The No. 17-ranked Wagner women's water polo team extended their winning streak to seven games on the first day of the Princeton Invitational by defeating the hosting No. 21 Princeton Tigers 11-9, followed by a 17-10 victory over George Washington.

The Seahawks offense continued its hot hand from last weekend in the first 16 minutes against the Tigers, tallying eight goals in the opening half and giving themselves the insurance to leave the pool with a 11-9 victory after the final whistle.
In the opening quarter,
Sofia Diaz Alvarez went back and forth with the Tigers before
Malia Josephson and
Jacqui Sjogren each found the back of the cage in the final minute to end the first stanza leading 4-2.
The Green & White opened the second quarter with three unanswered goals to stretch their lead to 7-2 with goals from Josephson,
Abbey Simshauser, and
Valeria Rojas. Princeton would answer back with two goals of their own, but a third goal from Josephson sent the teams into the halftime break with Wagner leading 8-4.
Princeton would outscore the Seahawks 4-1 in the third quarter to bring themselves within one goal of the Green & White heading into the fourth quarter trailing 8-9. Sjogren notched her second goal of the day midway through the period to keep Wagner in front.
In the final period, Sjogren and Josephson would each record another goal to close the door on the Tiger comeback and give the Seahawks their fourth victory over a top-25 ranked opponent on the year, 11-9.

After recording their sixth straight win over the Tigers, the Green & White offense picked right up where they left off, tallying 17 goals and securing their seventh straight victory over the Colonials of George Washington, 17-10.
The Green & White would outpace GWU in the first sixteen minutes 8-3 with two goals from
Sofia Diaz Alvarez and
Malia Josephson, as well as a single goal from
Abbey Simshauser,
Savannah Henshaw,
Jacqui Sjogren, and
Erin Weisert.
The Colonials would stay more evenly paced with the Seahawks in the final 16 minutes, notching seven goals to their nine scores in the final sixteen minutes. Pulling themselves within three goals, at 8-5, George Washington would never be able to fully close the gap as they handed the Green & White their seventh straight victory.
Diaz Alvarez led the way in the second half with four goals, while
Pip Nash,
Valeria Rojas, Sjogren, Simhauser, and
Serena Thurman each tallied a single goal to help extend the Seahawks lead and secure their sweep of day one matchups.
