Elijah Allen scored 13 points apiece to lead the Seahawks, but it wasn't enough, as the Wagner College men's basketball team dropped its 2020-21 season-opener 78-45 against Seton Hall on Tuesday night at the Prudential Center.
Following an unusual offseason, the Seahawks fall to 0-1 on the season, while the Pirates even their record at 3-3.
Wagner jumped out to an early lead as Ford scored the first four Seahawk points of the season. After Seton Hall answered, a three-pointer by freshman
DeLonnie Hunt with 7:32 to play in the first half capped an 11-1 run by the Green and White to make it a 22-21 game in favor of the Pirates.
That was as close as the Green and White would get, however, as Seton Hall closed out the first half on a 15-0 run to take a 37-21 halftime lead.
In the second half, the shifty Allen scored eight of his 13 points to finish in double figures in his first collegiate game, but the Pirates pulled away for the 78-45 victory.
Four Seahawks saw their first action in Green and White on the evening, as Hunt and Allen both earned a spot in head coach
Bashir Mason's starting five, with junior
Justin Brown and sophomore
Jordan Mason also seeing their first minutes in a Wagner uniform. Mason, who missed last season due to injury, finished with five points on the day.
Senior
Alex Morales paced the Seahawks with eight rebounds while also chipping in seven points, as Seton Hall held a 40-31 overall edge on the glass.
Next up, Wagner is scheduled to open up Northeast Conference play next Tuesday, December 15, at Mount St. Mary's.
