Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's basketball team returns home following a four-game road stretch as the Seahawks host the Sacred Heart University Pioneers on Saturday afternoon. 


Wagner All-Time vs. Sacred Heart: 
  • Wagner and Sacred Heart will be meeting for the 39th time with the Pioneers holding a 29-9 advantage in the head-to-head series.
  • The Green & White will be looking for its first win over the Pioneers since January 13, 2014, when they earned a 79-70 home triumph. 


Wagner All-Time In Conference (Home) Openers:
  • Since Northeast Conference (NEC) play began during the 1986-87 season, Wagner is 13-21 in league lifters, after falling to Mount St. Mary's, 78-63, on January 2. 
  • In home conference openers, the Seahawks are just 11-22. 
  • Saturday's contest against the Pioneers marks the second straight season in which these two teams have squared off for Wagner's home NEC opener, as the Pioneerss defeated the Seahawks, 80-68, back on January 12, 2019. 
  • The Green & White will look for its first home conference opener victory since January 3, 2015, when they defeated the Saint Francis U Red Flash, 76-60. 


Last Time Out For Wagner: 
  • Trailing by 12 at halftime, the Wagner College women's basketball team cut the Mount St. Mary's lead to seven with 5:45 remaining, but the comeback attempt was halted as the Seahawks fell to the Mountaineers, 78-63, on Thursday at Knott Arena in the Northeast Conference (NEC) opener for both teams. 
  • For the second straight game, three Seahawks finished in double figures, led by sophomore forward Emilija Krista Grava, who finished with a team-high 15 points on 6-of-16 shooting from the field while grabbing a team-best six rebounds.
  • Junior guard Alayshia Dailey poured in 11 points as the Severn, MD native connected on 4-of-5 from the field in 32 minutes of action.
  • Redshirt senior guard Janelle Mullen was the third Seahawk to score in double-digits as she contributed ten points off-the-bench.
  • Senior Jordan Hobson ended the game with nine points and five rebounds to go along with two steals while junior Khaleah Edwards chipped in eight points, four rebounds and a team-leading four assists. 
  • Mount St. Mary's also had three go for double-figures, led by Jatarrikah Settle, who matched Krista Grava with a game-high 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting while tying for the team lead with eight caroms.
  • Michaela Harrison, an All-NEC Rookie Team selection a season ago, netted 14 points in 33 minutes of play while Kendall Bresee added 11 points, six rebounds and a game-best six assists in her 30 minutes of action.  


A Win Over Sacred Heart Would: 
  • snap a five-game losing streak.
  • be Wagner's 10th in the series against Sacred Heart (9-29 entering play)
  • be the Seahawks' first in the last 12 meetings against the Pioneers (Last Win: January 13, 2014 - 79-70 at the Spiro Sports Center)

At Spiro: 
  • Wagner has posted a 4-1 mark at the Spiro Sports Center this season, with its lone blemish to date a 66-45 setback to America East member, Stony Brook, back on December 15. 
  • The Seahawks are averaging 68.8 ppg inside the Spiro Sports Center and is a +5.0 on the boards, averaging 38.4 caroms a contest through five home contests. 
  • Sophomore Emilija Krista Grava and junior Khaleah Edwards have averaged double-figures, led by Krista Grava, who is pouring in 22.8 ppg in four home games while Edwards is next at 15.2 a contest.
  • Edwards and Krista Grava have crashed the boards effectively, with Edwards pulling down close to 8.0 caroms while Krista Grava has grabbed 7.0 a game. 
  • Freshman guard Alex Cowan has netted 9.6 ppg while dishing out 4.0 apg over the five Wagner home games. 
  • Redshirt junior guard Morgan Lenahan currently leads the team at home, averaging 5.0 helpers a game at Spiro to go along with 4.0 rpg and 4.0 ppg. 

 
Saturday Hoops: 
  • A season ago, the Seahawks went 5-8 in Saturday contests, with all five victories coming in league play. 
  • The Green & White averaged 61.3 points per game on Saturday, shooting 40.2 percent from the field and 32.1 percent from the outside while hitting on 72.9 percent from the free-throw line. 
  • In eight Saturday contests, Emilija Krista Grava netted 10.5 ppg while pulling down 5.3 rebounds a contest in 26.8 mpg. The Latvia native was 42.2 percent from the floor. 
  • In nine games on Saturday, Janelle Mullen added 8.6 ppg in 28.1 minutes. 
  • This season, the Green & White is 2-2, averaging 62.0 ppg.
  • Freshman Alex Cowan and sophomore Emilija Krista Grava are the lone Seahawks to net double-figures, with Cowan leading the way at 13.8 ppg and pulling down 5.3 rpg. 
  • Krista Grava has netted 11.3 ppg in three Saturday tilts while logging 27.7 minutes.


Tale Of Two Halves:
  • In the opening 20 minutes of play, Wagner is averaging just 26.7 ppg while shooting 33.8 percent from the field, 26.8 percent from three-point range and 63.6 percent from the free-throw line. 
  • Sophomore forward Emilija Krista Grava leads the team, averaging 7.3 ppg and shooting 47.9 percent from the field in the opening half. 
  • Wagner's opponents are tallying 37.6 ppg on 43.6 percent shooting from the field, 31.8 percent from three-point land and converting 69.2 percent from the free-throw line. 
  • Wagner is a -3.2 in turnover margin in the opening half of play. 
  • Flipping the script to the third and fourth quarters, the Seahawks have increased their production, averaging 36.0 ppg while shooting 42.9 percent from the field, 34.8 percent from deep and hitting on 73.7 percent from the free-throw line. 
  • The Seahawks have averaged 16.9 rebounds in the second half and hold a slim 73-68 edge on the offensive glass in the second half. 
  • Cowan and Krista Grava have poured in 8.2 ppg in the second half with Krista Grava converting at a 50.0 rate from the field. 
  • Junior Khaleah Edwards has poured in 7.3 ppg in 15.3 mpg while hitting on 53.4 percent from the floor and a team-leading 48.5 percent from beyond-the-arc. 
  • The Seahawks cut down on their turnovers in the latter half of the contest, as they are a -0.4 in turnover margin, averaging 8.8 mishaps while forcing 8.4 turnovers. 


Over The Last Ten:
  • The Green & White are 4-6 over its last ten games. 
  • Emilija Krista and Khaleah Edwards are the lone Seahawks averaging double-figures, with Krista Grava pouring in 16.0 ppg and Edwards at 13.7 ppg. The two, combined, are nearly shooting 50.0 percent from the floor while scoring 42.0 percent of the team's points over the last ten games (267 total points). 
  • Both Krista Grava and Edwards have also averaged 6.1 rebounds during the last ten contests. 
  • Redshirt junior guard Morgan Lenahan has dished out 34 or Wagner's 139 total assists during this span and leads the club with 10 steals. ​​​​​​​


About Sacred Heart:  
  • The Pioneers, who were predicted to finish in a tie for third with Mount St. Mary's in the 2019-20 Northeast Conference (NEC) Preseason Coaches Poll, enters play with 4-8 overall record and earned its first conference win on Thursday, coming-from-behind to edge out Merrimack, 63-60, at the Pitt Center. 
  • Adrianne Hagood is the team's leading scorer at 15.9 ppg, which ranks fourth in the league. She is converting close to 40.0 percent from the field, which ranks among the top-15 in the circuit.
  • Nikki Johnson is the team's second-leading scorer at 10.9 ppg and paces the Pioneers with 3.8 apg and 2.5 spg. 
  • Overall, Sacred Heart is averaging just 58.6 ppg and shooting 36.0 percent from the field and 31.2 percent from three-point range.
  • Collectively, the Pioneers are posting 4.0 blocks per game.
