Staten Island, NY – Down 61-60 a minute into the overtime session, Wagner sophomore forward
Emilija Krista Grava hit what turned out to be the go-ahead jumper with 35 seconds left in the extra frame just before junior guard
Alayshia Dailey made one-of-two from the line as the Seahawks edged out the LIU Sharks, 63-61, on Monday afternoon from the Spiro Sports Center.
Krista Grava paced the Seahawks with 17 points on 7-for-15 shooting from the field while pulling down a team-best seven rebounds in 37 minutes of action. Senior forward
Jordan Hobson joined Krista Grava in double-figures, chipping in 12 points on 5-for-9 from the floor in 20 minutes of play.
The Sharks also had two players score in double-figures, led by Ryan Weise, who netted a team-high 16 points, highlighted by four three-pointers. Brandy Thomas poured in 15 points to go along with eight rebounds in 36 minutes while Kiara Bell corralled a game-high 12 rebounds and scored seven points.

How It Happened:
First Quarter
- Wagner struck first after controlling the opening tip as Krista Grava scored the first bucket of the contest.
- Both teams traded baskets early in the contest before the visitors took an 11-6 advantage, capped by a Thomas layup.
- The Seahawks closed out the quarter on a 7-2 run, in which the Green & White hit on all three of their attempts from the floor to knot the Sharks at 13.
Second Quarter
- Thomas broke the stalemate seconds into the quarter.
- Lenahan responded for Wagner, getting the feed from redshirt senior guard Janelle Mullen and dialed one up from the outside, giving the Seahawks a 16-14 lead.
- A 9-2 spurt from LIU gave the visitors a slim 24-20 lead after Mia Perkins was able to convert on the layup at the 3:26 mark.
- Krista Grava and junior Khaleah Edwards netted consecutive scores for the home team in tying the game at 24 with a little over two minutes to go before halftime.
- The second-year Latvian forward added three points down-the-stretch before Thomas added a basket for LIU as Wagner went into the break with a 27-26 lead.
Third Quarter
- Out of the break, Hobson buried a jumper just before Dailey hit the backend of a two-shot foul that made it 30-26.
- Thomas scored her ninth point after banking home the layup from Jeydah Johnson that made it a one-score contest.
- The Green & White built an eight-point cushion, 38-30, after Krista Grava made just her third three-pointer of the season.
- The Sharks were able to seize the momentum, embarking on a 14-2 run over the final 5:22 of the third quarter in retaking the lead at 44-40; Weise was the catalyst, scoring eight of the 14 points during the run.
Fourth Quarter
- Drew Winter hit on a mid-range for the visitors, upping the lead to 46-40, before Lenahan answered back with her second trifecta of the contest.
- LIU quickly answered in the form of a Shayla Sanford jumper, as the Sharks held a 48-43 lead with 7:41 left in the contest.
- Mullen converted from the charity stripe, which ignited an 11-0 run by the Seahawks over the next two minutes as Wagner went ahead, 54-48, with 5:05 left in regulation.
- The Green & White went 4-for-4 during this stretch, with freshman Alex Cowan and Hobson scoring seven of the 11 points.
- Thomas followed a Bell miss with a layup that cut the deficit to four, 54-50, before Hobson joined Krista Grava in double-figures, with a high-arcing three-pointer from the top-of-the-key that extended the Seahawks lead to seven, 57-50, with 4:18 left to go.
- Johnson and Winter each hit from the outside, bringing LIU to within one, 57-56, with 1:19 to go in the game.
- After Cowan made the second of a two-shot foul, Winter was able to create separation from her defender and tie the game at 58 with just five seconds left.
- When play resumed following a Wagner timeout, Edwards was able to drive the baseline but her pull-up jumper ricocheted off the iron and was secured by the Sharks as the game headed for overtime.
Overtime
- Cowan gave Wagner the lead after hitting from the charity stripe.
- On LIU's next possession, Weise hit from three-point range after getting the pass from Johnson, giving the Sharks a 61-60 lead with 4:06 showing on the clock.
- After Wagner's head coach, Heather Jacobs, used a timeout, the Seahawks drew up a play and Krista Grava was the beneficiary off a good pass from Lenahan, as the second-year forward swished home the go-ahead basket.
- Sanford had a chance to give the Sharks the lead but misfired on a three-pointer as Cowan collected the rebound and called for time.
- Dailey hit 1 of 2 from the line, upping Wagner's lead to 63-61 before Paulani Tarawa fouled Lenahan with just seven seconds left in the first overtime frame.
- Lenahan couldn't extend Wagner's lead as Winter grabbed the loose ball and called for time.
- When play resumed, Winter misfired on a jumper as the loose ball was tracked down by Bell, but the swarming Seahawk defense was able to redirect Bell's layup chance as time expired and the Green & White secured its second-straight win.
