Staten Island, NY – The Wagner women's basketball team converted early and often from long-range which led the Seahawks past the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers, 74-66, on Saturday afternoon at the Spiro Sports Center.
For Wagner, it marked its first Northeast Conference (NEC) victory of the season while improving to 5-2 at home this season.
Prior to the start of the second half of today's contest, Wagner Athletics recognized their women's basketball alumni that were in attendance.
Four Seahawks finished in double figures, with guards
Alex Cowan and
Alayshia Dailey each netting 13 points on a combined 9 of 18 shooting from the floor and 4 of 8 from three-point range. Cowan, in 38 minutes, dished out a game-high eight assists while grabbing four rebounds. Dailey chipped in four assists and three caroms in her 29 minutes of play.
Junior
Khaleah Edwards also reached double digits, finished with 12 points in 34 minutes of play while redshirt junior guard
Morgan Lenahan contributed 11 points on 5 of 9 shooting from the field while grabbing four rebounds, two steals, and two assists.
Three Terriers scored in double figures, led by Ally Lassen, who notched a team-high 19 points on 5 of 13 shooting from the floor while hitting on 9 of 12 from the free-throw line. She also corralled six rebounds in 35 minutes of play.
Jenna Jordan added 15 points to go along with six rebounds in 34 minutes of action. Nevena Dimitrijevic, the reigning NEC Rookie of the Week, dropped in 11 points while dishing out four assists and snagging five boards in defeat.

How It Happened:
First Quarter
- Lassen got on the board first for the Terriers, but, Wagner responded in the form of a 13-0 run over three minutes in building an 11-point lead.
- The Green & White were 5 of 7 during the run while hitting on 3 of 5 from the outside, with Dailey leading the charge with four points while senior forward Jordan Hobson, Edwards and Cowan combined for nine points.
- Jordan ended the Seahawk run with a layup before Cowan dialed up her second three-pointer while Lenahan hit on her first attempt from the outside, that bumped the lead to 19-4, with 4:29 left in the quarter.
- A quick 7-0 run by the visitors brought them to within eight, 19-11 after Lassen made both of her attempts from the line.
- Wagner outscored the Terriers, 9-6, over the final three minutes in taking a 28-17 lead after the first quarter.
- The Seahawks went 8 of 14 from downtown in the opening frame while hitting on 10 of 18 from the field.
Second Quarter
- Wagner picked up where they left off as Dailey opened the second quarter with her second three-pointer of the season that made it 31-17.
- Dailey added her third triple of the contest after receiving the feed from freshman forward, Katrice Jackson, which gave the home team a 34-21 advantage.
- The Seahawks scored 14 of the quarter's final 24 points in taking a 48-31 halftime lead as the Seahawks hit on 5 of 8 from the floor while limiting the Terriers to just two made field goals during the near four-minute span.
- St. Francis Brooklyn got its point from the line, going 6 of 8 while the Seahawks only had one trip to the charity stripe.
Third Quarter
- Following a Krista Grava turnaround jumper, St. Francis Brooklyn used a 15-4 run that spanned over six minutes in cutting the Wagner lead to just five, 52-47, with 3:25 left in the frame.
- The Terriers went 6 of 10 from the floor while holding the Seahawks to just two baskets in eight chances as Wagner went 0 for 4 from the outside.
- Cowan dropped in her 11th point of the afternoon after getting the pass from Dailey.
- Lassen dropped in a layup as time was expiring in the quarter, but Wagner held on to a 60-54 lead.
Fourth Quarter
- Two consecutive buckets from the Terriers narrowed the gap further, as Alyssa Fisher first hit on a jumper before Jordan added a mid-range basket of her own.
- The two teams traded scores before the Green & White recorded a short 6-1 run to increase the lead to seven, 68-61, with 3:16 left in the contest.
- SFBK's Cayln Richardson's jumper with over two minutes left trimmed the Wagner lead to 70-66, but the Green & White was able to hold off the Terriers after Edwards hit four free throws in sealing the win.
Inside The Numbers
- This afternoon's win marked the 25th career win for head coach Heather Jacobs at Wagner.
- Wagner, who finished the game 12 of 29 from three-point range, was one made trifecta away from tying the program record of 13, set twice, with the last coming on December 4, 2010, against Quinnipiac.
- The 12 made threes matches the Seahawks season-high, as they accomplished the feat against Staten Island (11/30/19).
- The Seahawks snapped a season-high eight-game losing streak while earning its first conference victory of the 2019-20 season.
- The Green & White moved to 5-2 at home this year.
