Le'la Allen's first goal of the season and four stops from
Isabella Manzella, the Wagner College women's soccer team dropped a 6-1 decision to the Saint Mary's (CA) Gaels at Saint Mary's Stadium
Saint Mary's (3-3) got on the board first in the 8' as Kaytlin Brinkman put one Manzella for the game's first goal. The Gaels added a second tally in the 20' from Jaylen Crim.
The Seahawks (1-4) were able to cut into the lead in the 28' as Allen found the back-of-the-net for her first goal of the season, which brought Wagner to within one, 2-1.
The visitors nearly tied the match as junior
Mya Donnelly's shot in the 38' went wide and a minute later, sophomore
Luisa Barone's attempt sailed wide of the net.
Saint Mary's threatened to up its lead but Manzella was up to the task as she turned away a pair of shots, the first by Nayeli Diaz in the 33' and stopping Isabella Santavicca's attempt with just ten seconds before the half.
Nine minutes into the second half, Saint Mary's took a two goal lead as Kamryn Farro was able to put one past Manzella. The Gaels continued to apply pressure and were rewarded with back-to-back goals a minute apart in taking a 5-1 lead before closing out the match with a Paris Fox goal in the 87'
Wagner closes out its two-match road swing as the Seahawks will travel to Upstate New York on Thursday, September 12 to square off against Binghamton.
