Vestal, NY – The Wagner College women's soccer team had a chance for the game-tying goal with just 44 seconds remaining in regulation but the attempt was thwarted as the Seahawks dropped a 1-0 decision to Binghamton on Thursday evening.

The Seahawks (1-5) played the Bearcats (5-2) to a 0-0 stalemate at the end of the first half. Both teams had two shots find their way on net with Binghamton holding a slim 4-3 edge in total shots in the opening stanza.

Freshman Jordyn Price gave the visitors their first chance in tonight's fixture, three minutes into the contest, as she sent a shot that was turned away by Binghamton's goalkeeper, Haylee Poltorak.

Wagner's next opportunity came three minutes later, as graduate transfer Mariana Jaramillo booted a low shot that was stopped by Poltorak.

The Bearcats' first real chance came in the 26th minute as Olivia McKnight, Binghamton's leading goal scorer, sent a shot low and to the right that Seahawk freshman goalkeeper Erin Kelly was able to corral for the save.

Five minutes later, Binghamton was again on the attack as Essie Bonney directed a shot, this time to Kelly's left, but the first-year netminder denied the scoring chance, keeping the match knotted at 0-0.

The home eleven had one final chance before the intermission as Ryan Reilly sent one high over the net, concluding the first half of action.

These two teams resumed play similar to how the first half commenced before Binghamton was able crack through in the 51st. Ivana Pjetri sent a cross from the right side that found the foot of Bonney, as her attempted bounced and volleyed in, giving the Bearcats a 1-0 advantage.  Kelly kept Binghamton off the board as they threated shortly after on an attempt by Kayla MacKenzie.

Wagner had a chance for the tying marker in the 57th as junior Mya Donnelly sent a low shot that was stopped by Poltorak. A few ticks later, Le'la Allen, who scored her first goal of the season on Sunday at Saint Mary's (CA), laced a shot that was also stopped by Poltorak.

With ten minutes remaining in regulation, the Bearcats were looking to up its lead but Kelly kept Binghamton off the board, as she sent away the shot attempt from Stefania Piantadosi for her eighth save of the night.

With just a minute left to play, Wagner was awarded a free kick. With 44 seconds remaining, Jaramillo took the chance but couldn't boot the ball pass the Bearcats defenders, as her attempt was blocked and trickled out of play as Binghamton hung on for the win.

Kelly finished with nine saves on the evening, one shy of her career-high of ten, which was set back in Wagner's season opener at Rider. Jaramillo led the way with three shots, one on goal while Donnelly had two shots on the night (1 SOG). Price and Allen also had a shot on target.

Wagner returns home to Hameline Field on Sunday, September 15 as the Green & White will host Iona at 3:00 p.m.
