Conshohocken, PA – The 1-1 Wagner College field hockey team is hitting the road to take on the Villanova Wildcats looking to rebound after their first loss of the season at the hands of the La Salle Explorers. 
 
LAST TIME OUT FOR WAGNER:
  • The Seahawks were handed their first taste of defeat by the La Salle Explorers in their home opener, 6-0 last Sunday.
  • Goalkeepers Justine Van Spengler and Annabel Zandvoort split time in net and recorded eight and five saves, respectively.
  • Junior co-captain Grace Gibson and freshman Frederique Soons were both sidelined with injuries, leaving the Seahawks with a short bench.
  • Freshman co-captain Hannah Meyer led Wagner in shots with two, one of which was on goal.
  • Entering halftime with a deficit of 5-0, the Green & White rebounded defensively, only allowing a single fourth-quarter goal in the second half.
ABOUT VILLANOVA:
  • The Wildcats will enter Friday's contest with a 1-1 overall record, having just dropped their first decision on Sunday to the Monmouth University Hawks 5-3.
  • Villanova earned their first win of the season in their home opener against Northeast Conference (NEC) foe Sacred Heart University 3-2 with a game winning goal by senior forward Megan Vermeil with only 14 seconds remaining in regulation.
  • The Wildcats were predicted to finish fifth in the 2019 Big East Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • Junior midfielder and co-captain Riley Dolan was named to the 2019 Preseason All-Big East Team after earning Second-Team All-Big East in her sophomore campaign.
  • In all, Villanova returned 20 players from last season, highlighted by experienced forwards and midfielders.
