Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's soccer team fell at home to Fairfield, 4-0, on Friday evening at Hameline Field. The Seahawks are now 1-2-0 on the season while the Stags improve to 2-1 on the young season.

Senior goalkeeper Delaney Beck made eight saves for Wagner. Fellow classmate, tri-captain Maria Nunez, recorded a team-high three shots on the night, two of which finding its way on target.

Wagner had a pair of chances in the latter portion of the first. In the 35th minute, sophomore forward Luisa Barone nearly put the Seahawks on the board with a blast booted from inside the left wing.

Three minutes later, the Green & White strung together some well-connected passes as junior Mya Donnelly receiving the ball and pelting towards the net, but her chance trickled wide left of the target, keeping the game knotted at 0-0.

The Stags struck with a pair of goals, nearly a minute part, as they went ahead, 2-0. Brooke Jones broke the stalemate in the 39th as she received a cross from the right side from teammate Gabby Diodati in putting Fairfield up 1-0.

A minute later, the visitors got on the board again, as Julia McGuire curled one toward the bottom right of the goal, doubling Fairfield's lead to 2-0.

Twenty minutes into the second half, the visitors got its third score of the match, as this one came off the foot of Nicole Stryjek, who was able to fire one from the top of the box past Beck.

Stryjek added her second tally of the night in the 77th minute as Diodati deflected the initial attempt and Stryjek was able to tip in the loose ball, putting the match out-of-reach.

The Seahawks will close out its three-game homestand on Sunday, September 1, as the Green & White welcome Rhode Island to Grymes Hill. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
