Stanford, CA – The six-time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) champion Wagner women's water polo team fell to UC San Diego 12-8 in the opening round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament on Tuesday, as the Seahawks' record-setting season comes to an end.
Despite the historic 30-win season and six consecutive MAAC Championships, the Seahawks were playing catchup with the Tritons, as UC San Diego took a 4-1 lead at the end of the first stanza and continued to extend its lead from there.
The Green & White added three goals in the second period and held UC San Diego to two goals, cutting the Triton lead to 6-4. In the second half, UCSD found the back of the net six times to Wagner's four tallies, ultimately emerging victorious by a final count of 12-8.
The 2019 Seahawk senior class, comprised of

Sarah Limanni,
Abby Irving and
Natalie Kayton will graduate with 110 career wins, making the quartet the winningest class in program history.
Sophomore
Daisy Nankervis tallied a hat trick in the loss while sophomore
Savannah Henshaw scored two goals of her own. Redshirt junior
Kristy Donkin, junior
Jacqui Sjogren and freshman
Sofia Diaz Alvarez each found the back of the net once, respectively.
Defensively, Nankervis and sophomore
Malia Josephson grabbed three steals apiece, while freshman Philippa Nash added two steals. Sjogren drew an impressive five kickouts to give Wagner offensive opportunities.
With the loss, the Seahawks conclude the 2019 season with a 30-10 overall record.
