Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College baseball team dropped the final game of its weekend Northeast Conference (NEC) series to Central Connecticut, 5-0, in game two of Saturday's doubleheader at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
With the loss, Wagner falls to 15-27 and 8-13 in league action while the Blue Devils improve to 21-18 and 11-7 in conference action.

Emil Matti each had a hit for the Seahawks in the nightcap of Saturday's twinbill.
Junior
McCae Allen took the loss (4-6), giving up one run on five hits while walking four and striking out seven batters. Classmate
Nick Robino tossed the next three innings, giving up two runs on four hits while striking out five out of the bullpen.
Nick LePre and
Nick Zuppe each went an inning with Zuppe giving up two unearned runs and striking out four batters.
Dave Matthews and Chris Kanios each had three hits for the visitors, with Matthews delivering three RBIs for the Blue Devils. Patrick Mitchell earned his fifth win of the season after going the distance, allowing just the five hits while walking one and striking out 13 batters.
Following a pair of scoreless innings, Central Connecticut scored first in the top of the third. Matt Bertochi led off the inning with a walk while Dylan Sanchez singled to left. After a strikeout to Sam Loda, Allen issued a pair of walks to TT Bowens and Matthews, which brought in the first run of the contest.
CCSU struck again in the top of the seventh, to make it 3-0, as, after Bowens singled back-up-the-middle, Matthews connected on a two-run home run to left field off of Robino.
In the top of the ninth, the Blue Devils plated home two more scores. Zuppe came on for LePre, and hit Bowens with an errant pitch. A single from Matthews gave the visitors two men on. Zuppe was able to settle in and strike out Dewaine and Peyton Stephens.

Tyler Sanfillippo's glove, allowing both Bowens and Matthews to score that increased the lead to 5-0.
Wagner mounted a late rally. Senior
Will Johnson and Sabido walked. Mitchell retired Sanfillippo and Pecora on a ground out before hitting Schneider with a pitch that loaded the bases. Mitchell then closed out the game with his 13th punchout of the game as he Matti struck out swinging.
The Seahawks will play their final midweek contest of the 2019 season as Wagner will make the short trek to Queens, NY to square off against Big East members, St. John's, on May 7 for a 6:00 p.m. contest at Jack Kaiser Stadium.
