Norwich, CT – The No. 3-seeded Wagner College Seahawks collected six hits but were held without a run as the Green & White fell to the No. 2 seed, Central Connecticut, 5-0, in Thursday's 2019 Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship opener.
With the loss, the Seahawks, who stand at 18-31, will square off against the No. 4 seed, Sacred Heart, in tomorrow's elimination contest, which is set for 12:00 p.m. The Pioneers dropped a 4-0 decision to the top overall seed, Bryant, earlier in the NEC's other semifinal.

Freddy Sabido, went 2-for-4 for the Seahawks while fellow all-league choice, senior 3B
Will Johnson, juniors
Tyler Sanfillippo and
Griffin Schneider along with freshman catcher,
Johnny Kampes, each had a base hit.
Wagner starter,
Justin Beyer, was tabbed with the loss, lasting 4.2 innings, giving up three runs on five hits while walking four and striking out three. Central's Tom Curtin went the distance in earning the victory, striking out five Seahawks.
CCSU's Buddy Dewaine led the Blue Devils, going 3-for-3 with a run scored while driving in four of the team's five runs. Jake Siracusa added the other RBI.
The Blue Devils jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Beyer walked the leadoff batter in Chandler Debrosse before allowing a single to Sam Loda. After retiring TT Bowens for his first strikeout of the game, Beyer got Dave Matthews to fly out to sophomore
Emil Matti in left for the second out.
Dewaine then stepped in and ripped a double down the right field line that scored both runners. The next batter, Siracusa, sent a double to right center that brought home Dewaine, making it a three-run advantage for CCSU.
Both pitchers put up zeroes before Wagner staged a rally in the top of the seventh. Johnson led off with a first-pitch single to right field. Sabido followed with a single to left center and both runners moved up as Chris Kanios bobbled the ball in the outfield. giving the Seahawks runners in scoring position.
Curtin was able to strand the runners at their respective bases as senior
Joe Silvestrone grounded out back to Curtin for the first out before CCSU's starter retired Sanfillippo and Schneider on three pitches as Sanfillippo popped out to the shortstop, Matt Bertochi, before Schneider lined out to Kanios ending the threat.
The Blue Devils tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning that increased their lead to 5-0. Sophomore
Nick LePre came for freshman left-hander,
John LaPointe, and gave up a two-out double to Dewaine, who plated home both Loda and Bowens.
