Freddy Sabido and
Griffin Schneider each had two hits and drove in three RBIs apiece. Both players, in addition to senior
Joe Silvestrone, launched a home run in today's victory.
For Sabido, his two-run shot in the third inning was a milestone one, as he became the 10th Seahawk all-time with at least 20 career home runs. Additionally, the 6'7" Staten Island native moved into a tie for 12th place on the career RBI list, joining former Seahawk, Kevin McDonnell, as both have 102 career RBIs.
Silvestrone connected on his fourth round-tripper of the season while Schneider hit his second. Junior
Tyler Sanfillippo led the Green & White with three hits and added two RBIs in the victory. Senior
Anthony Pecora also added a hit and a RBI in today's contest.
Junior right-hander
Justin Beyer, making his fourth start of the season, went 6.2 innings in picking up his third win of the year. The Niagara Falls, NY allowed two runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out five batters, marking the fourth time this season he has posted at least five or more strikeouts. Freshman reliever,
John LaPointe, fired 2.1 frames of scoreless relief, giving up just two hits while fanning two batters.
FDU's Salvatore Monticciolo spearheaded the Knights' offense with a 3-for-4 performance, in addition to leaving the yard with his 13th home run of the season. Nate Brodsky and Mike Veit also had a pair of hits for Fairleigh Dickinson.
Aaron Cohn was tagged with the loss, going five innings in which he allowed seven runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out two batters.
After two scoreless innings, Wagner struck first. Senior
Will Johnson drew a walk and on the first-pitch of the at-bat, Sabido crushed Cohn's pitch over the right center field wall in giving the visitors an early 2-0 advantage.
Silvestrone followed up the Sabido homer with a single through the right side and came around to score on Sanfillippo's RBI double to right center that made it 3-0. Schneider brought in Sanfillippo with a run-scoring single back up-the-middle that capped off the four-run third.
The Seahawks, following a scoreless fourth inning, ignited a three-run fifth that upped its lead to 7-0. With two outs, Silvestrone belted a first-pitch solo home run off of Cohn. Two batters later, Schneider, who was down in the count, sent a deep drive that cleared the center field wall, bringing in Sanfillippo on the two-run dinger.
FDU got its lone runs in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Adam Frank reached on a base hit to center and Monticciolo brought him home on the two-run home run to right.
The visitors scored the game's final three runs over the seventh and eighth inning in sealing the 10-2 victory. Sanfillippo delivered his second RBI on a single to left in the top of the seventh that made it 8-2 before Pecora and Sabido each sent RBI singles to right in the eighth that sealed the win.
These teams resume their series tomorrow afternoon with first-pitch slated for 1:00 p.m. Tomorrow's contest is scheduled to be streamed on NEC Front Row.
