Poughkeepsie, NY – No. 1-seeded Wagner defeated No. 4 Virginia Military Institute, 25-2, on Saturday to advance to the 2019 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Water Polo Championship game, marking the ninth consecutive time that the Seahawks will compete in the title game.
Wagner (29-9), which has defeated Marist in the last five MAAC Championship games, will meet the No. 2-seeded Red Foxes in the MAAC title game at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28.
In reaching the MAAC Championship game for a record 14
th time, Wagner will look to make history in becoming the first ever team to win six consecutive MAAC titles.
Sophomore Malia Josepshon led the offense, scoring six goals in todays semifinal contest, followed by First Team All-MAAC Selection junior
Jacqui Sjogren who tallied five goals of her own. Another First Team selection in redshirt junior and captain
Kristy Donkin added four goals.

Daisy Nankervis posted a hat trick while First Team All-MAAC selections
Erica Hardy and
Sofia Diaz Alvarez along with Philippa Nash,
Franciska Milo-Sidlo,
Allison Long,
Savannah Henshaw and
Erin Weisert each found the back of the net once, respectively.
The 19
thranked Seahawks led wire-to-wire, scoring 23 unanswered goals and holding the Keydets scoreless for 26 minutes of play. VMI did not score its first goal until there was 5:50 left in the fourth period as the final count was 25-2.
Diaz Alvarez also grabbed a whopping eight steals while Nankervis, Nash and Josephson each stole four times apiece.
Defensively,
Katherine Campbell held tough in the cage, blocking five shots on goal as
Mikaela Wells added four saves to help Wagner advance to the MAAC Championship, which will take place tomorrow, April 28 at 2:00 p.m.
