Baseball Drops Middle Game Of Series, 9-8, On Walk-Off Two-Run Home Run At Mount St. Mary's

Emmitsburg, MD – The Wagner College baseball team dropped the middle game of its three-game series at Mount St. Mary's by a count of 9-8 on a two-run, walk-off home run off the bat of Patrick Causa.
 
With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 13-21 overall and 7-7 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play while the Mountaineers improve to 12-25 and 6-8 in league contests.
 
Seniors Anthony Pecora and Will Johnson, along with junior Tyler Sanfillippo, supplied three hits apiece for the visitors with Sanfillippo driving in four RBIs. Junior DH Freddy Sabido, who added two hits, brought in three RBIs while Johnson was credited with final RBI for the Seahawks.
 
Senior left-hander Neil Abbatiello gave up seven runs on ten hits with a walk and six strikeouts over six innings of work as he didn't factor into the decision. Junior Ryan Lauk, who came on for Abbatiello, was saddled with the loss (1-3) as he lasted 2.2 frames, giving up the game-winning runs on three hits while striking out two.
 
Causa and Zack Costello each had three hits for the Mountaineers while Thomas Bramley scored twice, added two hits and drove in six of the nine runs in the victory for the Mountaineers. Starter Jordan Geber last 4.2 innings, in which Wagner tagged him for six runs on ten hits.
 
Geber did have four strikeouts and a walk in today's outing. Cole Reeder (1-0) earned the win, tossing two scoreless innings of relief in which he issued three walks and had a strikeout.
 
Wagner got on the board in the top of the second as Sanfillippo sent a RBI single to left to plate home Johnson. In the bottom of the frame, Mount put up four four runs. Causa led off the second with a solo shot to left field to tie the game at 1-1. Two straight singles gave the home team runners on for Bramley, who took Abbatiello's 1-1 pitch over the left-center wall that extended the lead to 4-1.
 
The Seahawks got one back in the top of the third in cutting the deficit in half, 4-2. A single from freshman Johnny Kampes and a double by Pecora gave the Green & White runners on second and third  before Sabido reached on a fielder's choice that scored Kampes.
 
Wagner ignited a four-run fifth in taking a 6-4 lead. Two straight hits from Kampes and Pecora kicked-started the rally. After a double play erased both Emil Matti and Kampes, Sabido stepped up and sent Geber's 1-1 pitch over the center field wall that tied the game at four. For Sabido, it marked his third home run of the season and 20th RBI.
 
The Seahawks continued the timely hitting with three straight base hits, culminated in Sanfillippo plating across two more RBIs, as the visitors claimed a 6-4 lead. The Mount responded in its half of the sixth with a three-run outburst in regaining the lead at 7-6.
 
Consecutive singles from Causa and Costello started the Mount sixth. Alex Kriss moved both runners up a base on the sacrifice bunt before Bramley stepped into the box and launched his second round-tripper of the day, as the Mountaineers went ahead by one.
 
The Seahawks responded right back in their half of the seventh with two runs, in retaking an 8-7 lead. Sabido singled up the middle and senior Joe Silvestrone doubled to right center, moving Sabido to third. Johnson then ripped a first-pitch RBI single through the right side that brought in Sabido to tie the game at 7-7.  Sanfillippo drove in his fourth RBI of the contest, doubling down the right field line that plated home Silvestrone as Wagner went ahead by one.
 
Ryan Lauk came on for Abbatiello to start the bottom of the seventh and allowed just one hit over the next two innings, recorded two strikeouts in the process. In the bottom of the ninth, with two outs, Thomas Savastio sent a first-pitch single to left center that brought up Causa, who won the game for the Mountaineers with the walk-off, two-run home run.
 
These two teams will conclude its series on Saturday afternoon with first-pitch slated for 1:00 p.m.
