Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's tennis team was blanked by the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, 6-0, on Friday afternoon.
With the setback, the Seahawks fall to 4-10 overall and 2-3 in Northeast Conference (NEC) matches while the Blackbirds improve to 10-7-8 overall and sport a perfect 4-0 league mark.
LIU was able to secure to doubles point but not without a little resistance from the Green & White at No. 2 doubles. The Seahawk pairing of sophomore
Fidan Khalilzade and newcomer
Emma Reeves put forth a valiant effort against Jessica Brzozowska and Sasha Bollweg before being outlasted by the LIU duo, 7-6.
In singles action, senior
Rina Baynes took the first set in her No. 4 matchup against Malin Leysen before dropping the second, 6-1. In the third and deciding set, Baynes and Leysen went back-and-forth before Leysen ultimately earning the 10-6 winner. LIU earlier secured wins at No. 3, No. 1, No. 2 in securing overall victory.
Wagner closes out the 2018-19 season on Tuesday, April 16 as they welcome Monmouth on Senior Day, as the Seahawks will honor its lone senior,
Rina Baynes, who will be playing in her final home match.
