Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College softball team earned a split in its non-conference doubleheader against visiting Saint Peter's on Wednesday. The Seahawks picked up a 6-2 victory in game two after falling 7-5 in game one.
With the split, the Seahawks are 11-20 on the season while the Peacocks now sit at 4-29 on the year.
Game 2 Recap: Wagner 6, Saint Peter's 2
The Seahawks struck early and never looked back in a wire-to-wire victory. Senior
Karen Prihoda walked to lead off the game and scored on an RBI groundout by freshman
Natalie Del Ponte in the bottom of the first inning.
Wagner added three more runs in the second on a basesbases-loaded walk by junior
Zoe Bender, an RBI single by Prihoda, and a sacrifice fly by junior
Hannah Lewis.
In the third, a solo shot by junior
Kaila Smith further extended the Seahawk lead to 5-0.
Saint Peter's answered with two runs in the top half of the fourth inning, but the Seahawks added an insurance run in the fourth on another sacrifice fly by Lewis, which scored Bender to make it 6-2.
In the circle, freshman
Eve Harvey earned the complete game victory to improve to 4-3 on the season, striking out two batters in seven innings.
For the game, the Seahawks and Peacocks recorded five hits apiece.

After the Peacocks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second, Wagner fought back by scoring three runs in the bottom half of the inning, as RBIs by Lewis and Prihoda made it 4-3 in favor of Saint Peter's.
The Seahawks tied the contest at four apiece in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Del Ponte, but gave up the lead in the top of the seventh inning, as the Peacocks pulled away with three runs.
Down to their last three outs, an RBI single by Smith cut into the deficit, but the Seahawks' rally fell short.
