Annapolis, MD – The Wagner College men's tennis team picked up a 4-1 victory over the La Salle University Explorers on Saturday in a neutral site match in Annapolis, MD.
With the victory, the Seahawks move to 4-3 overall on the season while La Salle falls to 2-12.
The Green & White took two of three matches in doubles action to secure the first overall point of the match. The senior duo of
Anatoliy Lashkul and
Dale Sandy earned its sixth victory as a pair as they defeated the tandem of Francesco Mowrey and Nassim Fenjiro, 6-1, at No. 1.
The Explorers rallied in No. 2 in earning a 6-0 win as Rogelio Gonzalez and Connor Merrill were victorious over junior
Dylan Walters and senior
Eric Poland.
In the third and deciding match, senior
Ilya Kneppelhout and junior
Hans Ohrner outlasted Colin Lucius and Andrija Bozovic, 7-5, to pick up the first point of the match for Wagner.
In singles play, Poland earned his 51st career singles win as he bested Patrick Pascual, 6-2; 6-2, at No. 5 to put Wagner ahead 2-0. Gonzalez put La Salle on the board with a 6-3; 6-2 win at No. 3 to cut the Seahawk lead.
Junior
Siddharth Anand earned his eighth singles win of the season at No. 6 as he bested Lucius, 6-3; 6-3. Walters clinched the match for the Seahawks with a 6-2; 6-2 triumph over Merrill.
Wagner concludes the weekend against Navy on Sunday morning as the two schools will meet at 11:00 a.m.
