Charlotte, NC – After rain postponed the Seahawks' first two games of the weekend yesterday, the Wagner College softball team dropped a pair of games to Charleston and the host UNC Charlotte on Saturday.
The Seahawks will continue play tomorrow morning, with Friday's game against Valparaiso scheduled to be resumed at 9 am, followed by a second game against the Crusaders at 10 am.
With today's losses, Wagner falls to 1-5 on the year.
Game 1: Charleston 6-3 Wagner
The Seahawks' offense struck in the first inning, scoring three runs on as many hits. After the Cougars scored four runs in the top half of the inning, Wagner answered with back-to-back RBI doubles by junior
Kaila Smith and freshman Natalie del Ponte.
Next up, an RBI single by junior
Alyssa Tucker brought home Wagner's third run of the inning to cut the deficit to 4-3.
The Seahawks threatened again in the second inning as sophomore
Alexis Silinonte singled and advanced into scoring position on a groundout, but Wagner was unable to capitalize.
The Cougars added to their lead with one run apiece in each of the fourth and fifth innings to make it 6-3.
Down to their last three outs, the Seahawks once again rallied on a walk to junior
Lauren Serrato and a base hit by junior
Hannah Lewis. With the tying run at the plate, the Green and White failed to extend the game as the Cougars hung on for the 6-3 victory.
Overall, Charleston out-hit Wagner 12-5 as freshman

Game 2: Charlotte 14-6 Wagner (5 innings)
For the second consecutive game, the Seahawks scored in the first inning. After a walk and a stolen base by senior
Karen Prihoda and a single by Lewis, an RBI single by del Ponte gave Wagner an early 2-0 advantage.
Wagner tagged on four runs in the top half of the fifth inning on another RBI single by del Ponte, an RBI groundout by Smith, as well as a two-run single by Tucker.
The 49ers scored one run in the second, five in the third, two in the fourth, and six runs in the fifth to earn their sixth victory of the season.
Prihoda and Lewis led Wagner with two hits apiece, as the Seahawks combined for six hits throughout the contest. Del Ponte led Wagner with three RBIs while Tucker batted in two runs.
