Queens, NY – The Wagner College softball team suffered an 11-1 defeat to Hofstra to close out the St. John's Invite on Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 4-12 on the season, while Hofstra evens its record at 11-11 this year.
Five Seahawks combined for six hits in today's contest, with junior
Kaila Smith collecting two hits and batting in the lone Seahawk run of the game.
Seniors
Karen Prihoda,
Lauren Serrato, and
Jessica Carlucci, along with junior
Amelia Van Orman also recorded hits for the Green and White.
The Seahawks scored in the bottom of the sixth, as back-to-back base hits by Prihoda and Serrato set up Smith, who delivered an RBI single to right field to score Prihoda and get Wagner on the board.
Hofstra scored in five of seven innings and combined for 11 runs on 22 hits.
Senior
Ciera Luna was charged with the loss, while freshman
Kayla Hooks also saw action in the circle for Wagner.
The Seahawks are next in action on Wednesday for their home opener against Yale, starting at 2 pm.
