Geneva, NY – The Wagner men's lacrosse team, which received two goals apiece from junior midfielder Nick Schmidt and junior attackman
Dominic Branda, trailed Hobart by just a 5-3 count at halftime before the Statesmen pulled away for a 13-7 win on Saturday in the Northeast Conference (NEC) opener for both teams.
With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 1-7 on the season while Hobart, which received votes in both major polls this week, improves to 5-1.

Nic Ancona, trailed by just that 5-3 margin at halftime. But the Statesmen outscored Wagner 5-0 in the third quarter to take a 10-3 lead.
The Seahawks showed some grit in the fourth quarter by outscoring Hobart 4-3 in the game's final frame to draw within 13-7 at the final horn.

The Statesmen held a 50-32 edge in shots and led in ground balls by a 31-16 count while winning 14-of-23 faceoffs. The Seahawks were 18-of-21 on clears and committed 18 turnovers while Hobart was successful on 17 of its 20 clearing attempts while turning the ball over 16 times.
Jason Nox paced the Statesmen with four goals, Eric Holden added three, while Tommy Mott dished out four assists. Sam Lucchesi came up with seven saves between the pipes for Hobart.
Wagner is next in action on Saturday, March 23 when the Green & White travel to Newark, NJ to meet NJIT. Faceoff between the Seahawks and the Highlanders is set for 12:00 p.m.
