Flushing, NY – The Wagner College men's tennis team picked up its second straight win, defeating Queens College, 6-1, at the Queens College Tennis Center on Saturday evening.
With the victory, the Seahawks move to 3-1 on the season while the Knights remain winless and drop to 0-3 on the season.
After No. 1 doubles went unfinished, in Wagner's favor (5-6), the Seahawk duo of junior
Dylan Walters and graduate transfer
Lucas Gonzalez picked up a 6-3 victory at No. 3 over Nick Volos and Mariano Biblioni. The Green & White recorded the first point of the match after the senior tandem of
Eric Poland and
Ilya Kneppelhout grinded out a 6-4 triumph over Richard Sec and Kareem Rashad.
In singles action, senior
Dale Sandy got past Volos, 6-2; 6-2, as Wagner went up 2-0 in the overall match. Walters posted a 6-4; 6-4 win over Sec at No. 2 singles before Queens College secured its lone victory of the match, with Rashad defeating Gonzalez, 6-1; 6-3, at No. 3.
The match was clinched by the visiting Seahawks at No. 1 play as
Anatoliy Lashkul outlasted Cosme Jubera, 7-6; 6-2, at No. 1. Poland and junior
Hans Ohrner also earned victories in the match. For Poland, he became the second Seahawk to record 50 career singles wins, joining former Seahawk,
Charlton Boyd, who finished with 75 career wins (2014-18).
The Seahawks will next be in action on March 2 as Wagner squares off against Southern Methodist (SMU) in the Bronx, NY at the Cary Leeds Center for Tennis & Learning for a 5:00 p.m. match.
