Staten Island, NY – Trailing 41-34 at halftime, the Wagner College women's basketball team open the third quarter on an 11-2 run and outscored Central Connecticut State, 36-21, in the second half as the Seahawks pick up their fourth straight win, a 70-62 victory, at the Spiro Sports Center on Saturday in a game that was seen on ESPN+.

With the win, the Green & White improve to 7-5 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play and 9-14 overall while the Blue Devils fall to 6-16 and 3-9 in league action.

This marks Wagner's second season sweep of an opponent for Wagner, after claiming the regular season series from LIU Brooklyn last weekend. The Seahawks' four-game win streak is the longest since the 2002-03 season, in which the Seahawks rattled off four consecutive victories from February 18 (vs. CCSU [74-60]) to March 1 (at St. Francis Brooklyn [81-61]).

Four Seahawks scored in double digits on the afternoon, led by sophomore guard Khaleah Edwards, who tallied a team-best 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting, which was highlighted by a 3-of-5 marksmanship from three-point range. Classmate Joellen How, junior Jordan Hobson and senior guard, Nakylia Carter, each scored 11 points on a combined 10-of-22 shooting from the floor and shot a collective 50.0 percent from beyond-the-arc.

Reigning NEC Player of the Week, Taylah Simmons, finished with eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds while adding five assists and four steals. The Melbourne, Australia native streak of double-figure scoring came to an end at 12 straight.  The Blue Devils were paced by Andi Lydon and Kiana Patterson, as Lydon led all scorers with 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting while Patterson added 16 in 35 minutes of play. Bruna Vila Artigues added nine points in 32 minutes.

Both teams came out shooting in the opening quarter as CCSU claimed a slim 20-18 lead. The Blue Devils jumped out to an early 6-2 lead before the Seahawks responded on an 11-5 outburst in claiming a 13-11 lead after redshirt junior guard, Janelle Mullen, drilled a three-pointer. CCSU closed out the quarter on a mini 8-3 run in leading by two at 20-18.

Hobson opened the second quarter with the first five points of the period for the Seahawks, as they regained the lead, 23-22, before the Blue Devils answered back on the heels of a 16-9 run over a near six and half minute stretch that gave the visitors a 38-32 advantage. Freshman forward, Enas Nigatu, stopped the run with a baseline jumper as Wagner trailed, 38-34, with 2:15 remaining before the break.

CCSU went ahead, 41-34, to end the first half as they shot 68.2 percent from the field (15-of-22) and 62.5 percent from three-point range while the Seahawks shot 42.0 percent and 53.8 percent from beyond-the-arc in the first half.  How and Hobson led the charge, scoring 16 of the 34 points in the opening half.

The Green & White opened the third quarter on an 11-2 run, in retaking the lead, 45-43, as sophomore Alayshia Dailey was able to bank one in off-the-window. Lydon knotted the game at 46 after her three-pointer rattled in at the 5:27 mark before How responded with a mid-range jumper to retake the lead. Dailey was able to get to the hoop again and tie the game 52-52 with 12 seconds showing in the frame.

In the fourth, Edwards began to heat up, drilling home Wagner's first five points in the quarter before Simmons added two from inside-the-paint in upping the Seahawks' lead to 59-52.

Patterson pulled CCSU to within five, 60-55, at the 5:34 mark, but Wagner was able to score ten of the final 17 points in holding on for the eight-point win and claim the season series from the Blue Devils.

For the game, the Seahawks shot 41.1 percent from the field and 47.6 percent from beyond-the-arc. Wagner held a 36-27 advantage on the boards, highlighted by a strong presence on the offensive glass, outmuscling CCSU, 13-5. Wagner's bench outscored the Blue Devils, 22-6.

The Seahawks will look for its first five-game win streak since rattling off five straight from January 21 through February 7, 1998, as Wagner travels to Mount St. Mary's on Monday evening.
