Fairfield, CT – The Wagner College football team will take the road for a Northeast Conference (NEC) battle against Sacred Heart on Saturday, November 9. The Seahawks are coming off a 27-13 loss to nationally ranked Central Connecticut, while the Pioneers earned a 24-17 victory over Bryant last week. Saturday's contest can also be seen on SNY.
Gill Continues Making History
With a sack-fumble in the second quarter of the Seahawks' game against Duquesne, senior outside linebacker
Cam Gill became the Northeast Conference's All-Time sack leader. Gill then added two sacks, as well as a forced fumble and fumble recovery, in the first quarter of last Saturday's game against Central Connecticut. The preseason All-American is currently first in the conference and ninth nationally with 0.94 sacks per game.
Yost Tosses His First Career Touchdown
Freshman quarterback
Ryan Yost recorded his first-career touchdown on Saturday. Entering play in relief of graduate student
Christian Alexander-Stevens, Yost found junior Josh DeCambre in the left corner of the end zone for a 20-yard score. For DeCambre, it was his fourth touchdown grab of the season.
Fair Play
The Seahawks lead the NEC in fewest penalties per game (6.33) and fewest penalty yards per game (50.44). Both marks stand among the top 60 teams nationally.
The Series
Saturday's game will be the 22nd all-time meeting between these longtime Northeast Conference (NEC) rivals and the Seahawks hold an 11-10 lead in what has been a close, competitive series these past two decades. Wagner has won four of the last seven matchups, including a 28-15 win in the 2017 season finale for both teams back on November 18 in Fairfield, CT.
Scouting The Pioneers
Sacred Heart comes into Saturday's contest with a 5-4 overall record and 3-2 conference mark. The Pioneers have won two straight games over Saint Francis U and Bryant with their two conference losses coming against CCSU and Duquesne.
Next Up For Wagner
Following Saturday's contest at Sacred Heart, the Seahawks will travel to Loretto, PA, to take on Saint Francis U on November 16 at 12 PM.
