Box Score Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College field hockey team closed out its first season after being reinstated by blanking fellow Northeast Conference (NEC) member, Merrimack, 5-0, on Friday afternoon in the Wagner College Field Hockey Complex.
The Green & White, who outshot the Warriors in the match, 20-6, went ahead 1-0 on freshman
Hannah Meyer's fourth goal of the season, when she dribbled across the field and unleashed a shot through Katharina Ohmen's legs from the left side of the circle.
Freshman goalkeeper
Justine Van Spengler, who played the first 30 minutes in net for the Seahawks, recorded her one and only save in the first period, to keep the Warriors off the board.
Wagner upped its lead to two in the second stanza, when Meyer put a shot from the penalty spot past Ohmen for her second score of the day. Meyer was the beneficiary of a stick-to-stick pass within the circle from
Laura Van Hamburg.
Six minutes later, Meyer completed her first career hat trick when she intercepted a pass in the circle and elevated a shot into the top right corner to extend the lead to 3-0.
In the second half, Meyer picked right back up where she left off when she dribbled across the circle and fired a shot into the left side of the cage for her fourth goal of the day.
Van Hamburg added the final marker with 3:29 remaining in the fourth quarter as she took the feed from teammate
Margaret Mahan at the top of circle and pelted a shot into the netting of the goal.
