Women's Tennis Earns 6-1 Win Over St. Francis Brooklyn On Sunday Afternoon

Seahawks close out fall season undefeated at 3-0

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's tennis team concluded its fall slate by picking up a 6-1 victory over St. Francis Brooklyn in the Northeast Conference (NEC) opener on Sunday afternoon at the Wagner Tennis Courts.
 
With the victory, the Seahawks finish the fall portion of its schedule a perfect 3-0 and 1-0 in league matches while the Terriers falter to 0-5 and 0-1 in conference tilts.
 
"I am very proud of the way the girls came out and competed this afternoon," mentioned first-year head coach, Lynn Kiro. "We are making good strides in our doubles matches and can see that each one of them are starting to buy into the culture we are creating. We couldn't have ended the fall season on a higher note and more proud that we got our first home win of the season."
 
The Seahawks swept through the doubles matches in earning the first point of the overall match.
 
In total, the Green & White rattled of five wins in singles to clinch the match. Sophomore Alegra d'Alessandro withstood a late rally from Alisa Handrugan at No. 4 singles with d'Alessandro earning a 6-2; 7-6 (3) triumph.
 
At No. 6 singles, senior Melanie Post outlasted Runsi Patro after dropping the first set, 2-6. Post recorded a 6-4 winner in the second set and clinched the match 10-7 in the third and deciding set.
 
The Seahawks will gear up for the spring season, which will be announced at a later date.
