Smithfield, RI – The Wagner College women's soccer team battled valiantly but came up empty in a 1-0 loss to Bryant on Sunday afternoon at the Bulldog Soccer Field.
The Seahawks (4-9-1; 2-3-1 NEC) put forth the first chance of the match as freshman
Renata Djuravecevic booted an attempt that sailed high over the goal.
On Bryant's (6-3-3; 4-0-2 NEC) first offensive possession, Amanda Spitaieri created space and fired a shot that found the arms of Seahawk senior goalkeeper
Delaney Beck in keeping the match scoreless. Beck was tested again, turning away a Caitlyn Linden attempt from the top of the box in the 10'.
The Bulldogs found the mark in the 15' as Alex Spangler pushed the ball up and sent a cross to the near post that Remi Manna was able to redirect into the back of the net giving Bryant the early lead.
Beck kept the match within reach, as she denied Allison Guilmette attempt in the 26'. Wagner's best chance in the first half came in the 28' as junior midfielder
Julia Fitzsimmons sent a shot on goal towards the bottom right of the goal but the Bryant goalkeeper, Meghan Dalton, was able to make the stop.
Towards the later portion of the match, the Green & White had two chances in finding the tying score as sophomore forward
Luisa Barone sent one on goal in the 70' that was denied by Dalton. With just 54 seconds showing on the clock, Wagner staged one final chance as Barone fired a shot towards the bottom right of the net but that chance was thwarted as the Bulldogs hung on for the win.
Barone led the way for the Seahawks with two shots on goal. Beck was credited with seven saves in playing the full 90. Her counterpart, Dalton, made three saves.
The Green & White returns home to Hameline Field on Sunday, October 20 as they will play host to the LIU Sharks at 1:00 p.m.
